Systems & Protection Engineer

The incumbent will be responsible for the design, engineering, testing, and commissioning of HV Substation SCADA System, Protection & Automation projects as well as providing field services support for installed base in in CEAP region. This position will be based in Thailand (Bangkok).

Roles and Responsibilities

• Design and Engineering of Substation (Secondary) Protection and System Automation projects per customers’ specification and requirements as technical lead. Responsible for protection panel design review, protection study, configuration of protection IEDs, FAT/SAT testing and site commissioning.
• Work closely with Engineering Manager and Project Manager for project execution plan and timely completion of projects.
• Analyze feasibility of offered solutions during design study and reviews, identify opportunities or improvement changes to improve design, performance, and quality standards.
• Able to troubleshoot, analyze and resolve issues at site. Provide necessary technical details and improvement recommendations to R&D for software improvement or issues fix on IEDs.
• Collaborate with other engineering teams and contractors as a technical expert for substation protection and system automation for coordinated execution of turnkey projects.
• Maintain traceable records (Technical Notes) of the basis for any Electrical – Protection & System Automation design decisions based on specifications and standards.
• Assist Services for Protection & Automation installed base in the region – On site support for extension scopes, troubleshoot, product firmware/software upgrades etc.
• Establish and maintain good customer relation with both existing and new customers in the region.
• Provide technical expert assistance for Grid Automation sales and tendering

Qualifications/Requirements

• Degree in Engineering (Electrical) with more than 8 years of experience in HV Substation Protection & System Automation engineering and project execution in Thailand
• Expert level knowledge in Protection application, testing & commissioning of HV Substation protection (Line Differential/Distance, Transformer Differential, HV Busbar Differential, Breaker failure, OC/EF, Generator and Motor protections etc.)
• Expert level knowledge in SCADA Systems in IEC 61850 protocol and system network architecture and configuration
• Experienced in Digital Substation projects – SCADA system and protection design, system network – Station and Process Bus implementation, IEC61850-9-2 LE Sampled Values, Goose matrix etc.
• Knowledge in communication protocols – IEC61850, MODBUS, DNP3, IEC101/104, IEC103
• IEDs, RTUs and System integration in IEC61850 communication protocol
• Expert level knowledge and experienced in GE Grid Automation MiCOM and UR range protection IEDs
• Lead project team to execute projects as per customer requirements, on-time submissions and approval of design, engineering, FAT & SAT plan and execution etc.
• Able to travel extensively for factory/site testing
• Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines
