Designation offered
Research Intern
Reporting to
Research Analyst
Location
New Delhi.
Duration
Two months
Purpose
CEEW seeks to hire a Research Intern to support its research programme on clean cooking energy, under the Clean Air-Clean Cooking team. The programme aims to drive a comprehensive transition of Indian households to clean cooking energy sources, with a dual focus on reducing household air pollution and mitigating climate impacts associated with solid fuel use. By building on insights from previous studies and leveraging survey and sales data, the programme explores key areas impacting the long-term viability and accessibility of clean cooking solutions, particularly for underserved populations.
This initiative will address critical questions around the effectiveness and reach of government programmes, such as the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, and the potential for carbon crediting frameworks to support clean cooking adoption. A special focus will be placed on understanding the health and environmental benefits associated with reduced household air pollution and strategies to optimise the socioeconomic impact of clean cooking interventions.
Indicative research questions:
- How can we enhance the sustained adoption of clean cooking energy in low-access areas, and what are the potential health, climate, and economic benefits?
- What role do carbon credit frameworks play in offsetting emissions from household energy use, and how can these be optimised for maximum impact?
- How does household air pollution in the Global South impact public health and contribute to broader climate challenges, and what interventions hold the most promise?

- Demonstrate familiarity with standard carbon credit frameworks for clean cooking, including methodologies for quantifying emissions reductions from clean cooking interventions.
- Maintain a general understanding of household air pollution in the Global South, focusing on its health, climate, and ambient air quality impacts.
- Understand the public health, environmental, and socioeconomic implications of household air pollution in developing regions.
