Job Description
The Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) is the national trade association for the solar and storage industry and represents more than 1,200 member companies and 263,000 Americans working across the United States. SEIA is leading the transformation to a clean energy economy and is creating the framework for solar to reach 30% of U.S. electricity generation by 2030. Position Summary
The Manager of Regulatory Affairs and Counsel supports SEIA and its members on FERC regulatory and legal issues. This position will also assist in negotiating with and representing SEIA before Regional Transmission Organizations (RTOs) and non-RTO Transmission Providers. The Manager is based in Washington, DC, or remotely, with occasional travel as requested. The Manager will report to the Senior Director of Energy Markets and will assist with building relationships, advocating for priority solar industry issues, and monitoring stakeholder proceedings on behalf of the trade association.
Core Duties & Responsibilities
- Review filings and draft pleadings before FERC and appellate courts, including comments, protests, requests for rehearing, and appellate briefs.
- Draft stakeholder comments before the RTOs and non-RTO Transmission Providers.
- Leads member meetings to advise and discuss FERC and RTO issues and builds member consensus.
- Meets with FERC, RTOs, and other stakeholders to advocate for members’ interests.
- Advises state and federal affairs staff on transmission, interconnection, and market reform issues.
Requirements
Professional Experience, Education & Other Qualifications
- J.D. required; active and in good standing with at least one U.S. State bar
- 2-4 years’ experience involving FERC statutes and regulations; preference to candidates that have experience in the ISO-NE and NYISO markets, but any market experience is welcome
- Excellent research, writing, and presentation skills
- Familiarity with the Federal Power Act and energy regulatory law
- Exceptional interpersonal skills
Working Conditions
- Work is in an office environment or remote environment that is suitably equipped with internet and telephone access.
- SEIA employees in the Washington, D.C. region follow a hybrid remote and in-person office model. Employees are expected to work a minimum of 3 days a week in an office environment and as needed when there are special events or meetings.
- Travel may be necessary.
Compensation Range
$75,000- $80,000 annually, based on experience and excellent benefits package.
