EV Solution is a division within Energy Vault that focuses on creating technology agnostic customer focused solutions. Utilizing its proprietary hardware architecture and technology agnostic software controls and optimization platform EVS caters to customers in enabling a renewable energy world.

Your Impact as a Power Electronics Test Engineering Intern

We are looking for a student intern to design and support Control Hardware in the Loop (CHIL) and Power Hardware in the Loop (PHIL) testing of grid interactive inverters for utility scale energy storage systems. In this role, you will gain practical and technical experience on cutting-edge energy storage technologies while working closely with industry experts to simulate, analyze and troubleshoot complex systems from inverter control board level to large scale site level controls.

Your Mission

  • Design and perform verification tests of grid interactive inverters in the HIL platform.
  • Work with internal and external teams to determine system requirements and verify our solution will meet and exceed project requirements.

Your Background

  • Current Master’s or Ph.D. student with research focus on grid interactive inverters with solid power systems/power electronics background.
  • Strong interest in renewable energy and energy storage industry.
  • Deep technical knowledge of grid-forming, grid-following inverters and power plant controller.
  • Experience with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing, preferably OPAL-RT or other platforms such as Typhoon and RTDS.
  • Experience with designing, testing, analyzing, evaluating power electronics systems (AC/DC and DC/DC converters).
  • Experience in testing inverter control board gate drivers and protection circuits.
  • Familiarity with power semiconductor devices SiC and IGBT.
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards such as UL 1741, IEEE 1547, IEEE 2800.
  • Experience with Matlab/Simulink, embedded control design experience in C/C++ preferably with TI C2000 DSP.
  • Experience in voltage source inverter control interfaces such as PWM, ADC; communication interfaces I2C, CAN, ETH.
  • Comfortable thriving in fast-paced, rapid growth environments.
