You will work cross-functionally with engineering, product, and leadership teams to ensure Design for Certification is embedded in product development from the earliest stages. This role will also act as the primary liaison with certification laboratories and local authorities to ensure our energy storage systems meet all regulatory requirements for deployment.

Responsibilities and Duties

Certification & Regulatory Expertise

  • Serve as the internal subject-matter expert on energy storage certification standards including CSA, UL, NFPA, and other relevant regulatory frameworks.
  • Research, interpret, and summarize applicable standards for internal teams.
  • Stay current on evolving industry regulations and certification requirements.

Design for Certification

  • Provide certification guidance during product design reviews.
  • Define certification requirements for new product designs.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure certification considerations are incorporated early in development.

Certification Planning & Execution

  • Develop and manage certification timelines in collaboration with engineering leadership.
  • Define key milestones, risks, and critical paths for certification programs.
  • Track certification activities to ensure products meet deadlines and regulatory requirements.

Budget & Resource Management

  • Define certification budgets including testing costs, samples, consultants, and lab fees.
  • Track certification expenditures and testing resources.

External Certification Coordination

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for certification laboratories and Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories (NRTLs).
  • Coordinate testing schedules, documentation, and certification activities.
  • Gather quotes and manage vendor relationships for certification services.

Risk Assessment & Compliance

  • Identify certification risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with applicable standards throughout product development.

Market Certification & Deployment Requirements

  • Engage with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) to determine requirements for energy storage installations.
  • Research certification and compliance requirements for deployment in new geographic markets.

The Candidate

We're looking for individuals with the following traits, skills, and experiences:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical or other related Engineering degree.

  • Previous experience certifying large hardware or electrical products.

  • Strong knowledge of the North American NRTLs and certification bodies.

  • Experience managing long-term certification or compliance projects.

  • Proven track record bringing products through certification.

  • Strong understanding of regulatory standards and certification processes.

  • Ability to analyze technical documentation and identify compliance risks.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • High attention to detail in documentation and compliance processes.

  • Ability to collaborate across engineering, production, and quality teams.

Nice-to-Have Experience:

  • Experience working with lithium-ion battery systems.
  • Knowledge of energy policy, sustainability initiatives, and regulatory trends.
  • Familiarity with grid-connected energy systems or PCS integration.
  • Knowledge of UL1973, UL9540, and UL9540A certification processes.

Why join us?

  • Today, we're delivering 5x the energy density and have all the certifications needed to ship energy independence to the world.
  • Be part of a mission-driven company focused on creating sustainable energy solutions and making a positive impact on the world.

We have 5 core values and 1 foundational pillar (Safety is our Foundation) which lays the groundwork for everything we do.

Safety is our Foundation

We prioritize the safety of our products, customers, employees, and the general public above all else. From the workshop to the field, we maintain the highest standards for our batteries in testing manufacturing and deployment, and daily operations. Safety is not only about procedures-it is about vigilance, responsibility, and speaking up when something does not feel right.

Safety is everyone's responsibility. We follow safety protocols, use proper equipment, and continuously improve our systems to prevent risks before they occur. If something is unsafe, we stop work and address it.

Safety also means protecting our colleagues, customers, and communities by designing reliable products, maintaining safe workspaces, and ensuring our work is done carefully and responsibly.

We're Building a Greener Future Together:

We infuse passion for our cleantech mission into every aspect of our work and incorporate fun into the workplace. We motivate one another, celebrate our successes and embrace eco-friendly practices to reduce our carbon footprint.

We Prioritize our Customer's Needs:

We place our customers at the core of everything we do, ensuring that every decision considers their needs and aims to provide increased value to them. We provide reliable support for our customers, every step of the way.

We're Open, Honest and Accountable:

We prioritize open and honest communication to foster mutual understanding, strengthen knowledge sharing, and reduce miscommunication within the team. We admit when we've made a mistake, and remedy our actions. We transparently communicate outcomes whether good, bad, or unexpected.

We Think and Act like Owners:

We're self-starters that proactively embrace new challenges along with personal and collective ownership of responsibilities in the organization. We focus on growth, not titles, and we do what needs to be done.

We Treat Everyone with Respect:

We actively listen, share openly, and work together towards common goals. We treat one another with mutual respect to cultivate an inclusive environment where everyone feels accepted, supported, and heard. We keep an open mind and are willing to learn.
