Your Impact as a QA QC Field Engineer - APAC
The QA QC Field Engineer leads and manages field quality assurance and engineering activities for BESS projects. This role ensures that all field engineering and quality processes are executed efficiently, meet regulatory and safety standards, and align with the project’s and company's goals. The manager acts as the primary liaison between the field operations, engineering teams, and other stakeholders to ensure project success.
This role is fixed term with the duration depending on the project completion – estimated time is 12 months - with potential to extend or conversion to permanent.
Your Mission
- Quality Assurance
- Develop and implement field quality assurance (QA) plans, procedures and standards to ensure project compliance with industry regulations or best practices
- Conduct field inspections and audits to monitor the quality of work performed by field teams, subcontractor and suppliers, ensuring all equipment and materials delivered to site are inspected and documented
- Identify and resolve quality issues by coordinating with engineering and field teams to implement corrective actions
- Amend quality control (QC) processes as required to respond to changes in specifications and/or drawings that may arise ensuring that inspection and test plans are adjusted to suit.
- Review and maintain project quality records
- Monitor supplier quality performance, including making recommendations to senior leadership for actions for underperforming suppliers
- Assist in the preparation and conduct of any quality trials and prepare any associated records, procedure, registers
- Oversee the development and approval of non-destructive test procedures by sub-contractors and maintain records
- Where requested, participate in the assessment of tenders submitted by contractors and other suppliers and their ability to comply with the quality conditions outlined in the contract and prequalification requirements
- Undertake technical review of client specifications with respect to QC issues and make recommendations as required
- Develop inspection and test plans (ITPs) ensuring they meet head contract requirements
- Amend QC processes as required to respond to changes in specifications and/or drawings that may arise ensuring that inspection and test plans are adjusted to suit
- Collect data from verification documents
- Represent EV with respect to QA/ QC issues with the client
- Represent EV with respect to QC issues with subcontractors/suppliers
- Manage field inspection activities
- Undertake internal reviews of QC areas on the project
- Develop and manage project QA/QC audit schedule
- Implement data collection processes including manual and electronic systems
- Prepare procedures as necessary
- Control the issue and recovery of all QC instruments on the project
- Maintain a register of QC instruments including calibration status
- Engineering Management
- Lead efforts to address design or engineering issues identified during project construction and commissioning phases
- Collaborate with project management, design and product teams to ensure that field engineering solutions are practical, cost-effective, and meet customer requirements
- Review and approve field engineering plans, designs, and specifications to ensure compliance with project requirements and quality standards
- Project Management
- Oversee field projects from initiation to completion, ensuring that they are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards
- Coordinate with project managers, contractors, and suppliers to ensure seamless execution of field activities
- Monitor project progress and prepare regular reports for senior management, highlighting any risks or issues
- Compliance
- Ensure that all field operations adhere to safety regulations and environmental standards.
- Conduct quality audits (e.g., ISO 9001) and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and implement preventive measures (nice to have)
- Stay updated with industry standards, regulations, and best practices, ensuring that the company remains compliant
- Stakeholder Communication
- Serve as the point of contact for clients, vendors, and internal stakeholders regarding field quality and engineering matters
- Provide technical support and expertise to customers, addressing any concerns related to quality or field performance
- Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities for process improvement in field operations and engineering practices
- Lead initiatives to enhance productivity, reduce costs, and improve the quality of construction & field testing
Your Background
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (e.g., Electrical or Civil) or equivalent experience
- 3+ years of experience in engineering, quality assurance, or project management, with at least 1 year of PV or BESS project experience preferred
- Deep knowledge of quality assurance methodologies, engineering standards, and industry regulations
- Proven experience in managing field operations
- Certification in quality management (e.g., Six Sigma, ISO 9001) is a plus
- ISO9001 awareness and implementation experience
- Excellent auditing skills and formal audit qualification
- Previous experience/exposure to the ISO 9001 accreditation processes
- Working knowledge of construction safety digital platforms (e.g., Procore)
- White card
- Excellent communication, people skills, and emotional intelligence
- Organization skills, attention to detail, a desire for efficiency
- Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of engineering principles relevant to BESS projects, field operations, and quality assurance practices
- Problem-solving: Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues in the field
- Experience in document control processes and procedures
- Excellent planning, organisational, interpersonal and communication skills
- Attention to detail and good administration skills
- Initiative and follow up skills
- Willingness to travel (~10% of the time; the rest of the time will be on site in Uralla)
- Proficient in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends or holidays, if required
- Comfortable in fast-paced, rapid-growth environments
