Job Description

We are not a development firm and we are not looking for typical development skills.

We are looking for talented candidates who believe in the power of the private sector to make a difference in the world's toughest places.

If that's you, contact us.

Why Join Us

The CrossBoundary Energy team is a unique group of people who are genuinely excited by the opportunity to make a difference in some of the world's most challenging and exciting renewable energy markets. The chosen candidate will play an important role in a unique team with the opportunity to make a large impact on the clean energy landscape for mines and businesses across Africa. Team members come from diverse backgrounds but share several qualities: curiosity, humility, integrity, a drive for excellence, and a bias for action.

What You'll Do

We are seeking a highly analytical and business-focused Business Development Analyst to support our sales and business development teams. This role is pivotal in driving actionable insights, ensuring robust market analysis, and supporting operational optimization across a diverse portfolio of renewable energy assets.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Market & Competitive Analysis
    • Conduct market surveys to track industry trends, commodity price movements (e.g., copper), and competitor activities
    • Ensure intelligence on market position, market share, competitor market share, and identify areas of competitive advantage
    • Identify emerging opportunities and risks in target markets
    • Maintain updated registration with EPCs and mining companies to ensure tender eligibility
  • Sales Data Management & Reporting
    • Collect, analyze, and interpret sales data to identify patterns and performance gaps
    • Prepare monthly sales reports and quarterly sales reviews aligned with CrossBoundary quality standards
    • Develop dashboards and KPIs for real-time performance monitoring
    • Manage CRM and ensure pipeline follow-up
  • Forecasting & Strategy Support
    • Build predictive models for sales forecasting and revenue projections
    • Provide data-driven recommendations to optimize pricing strategies and improve conversion rates
    • Prepare business plans (go-to-market strategies, sales reviews)
  • Internal Coordination
    • Collaborate with sales, marketing, and management teams to ensure alignment of strategies
    • Support operational processes for tenders and client documentation
    • Maintain accurate CRM records and ensure compliance with reporting standards
  • External Interaction
    • Assist the sales team in sales meetings and lead qualification process
    • Attend sales conferences with the sales team as required

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or related field
  • 2-5 years of relevant experience in sales analysis, business intelligence, or similar roles (preferably in mining or energy sectors)
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and data visualization tools such as Power BI
  • Familiarity with CRM systems (Salesforce, MSD)
  • Strong analytical capabilities
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

Who You Are

  • Self-starter who is passionate about data-driven decision making and its potential to transform frontier markets in Africa
  • Capable of applying analytical principles to complex, bespoke problems that require creative thinking
  • Comfortable with ambiguity; effective in a fast-moving and complex environment that does not have a fixed rule book
  • A practical thinker known for choosing the simple, robust solution where more complicated approaches would deliver the same results
  • A systematic and highly-organized project manager; takes personal accountability for tracking numerous activities across workstreams and driving them all to successful conclusion
  • A creative problem-solver not afraid to get their hands dirty to untangle a complex issue

Location

Candidates will ideally work from Johannesburg, South Africa. We are open to considering Cape Town, South Africa or Nairobi, Kenya, as alternatives.
