What They Do
New Energy Nexus focuses on accelerating weather-dependent clean energy technologies, including solar, efficiency, storage, and related innovations. The organization provides non-dilutive grants, accelerators, networks, training, and testing resources to early-stage startups, rather than developing proprietary products (source: newenergynexus.com). Its primary services include the CalSEED program, which has awarded $20 million to over 100 startups since 2016, and the CalTestBed initiative, distributing $8.8 million in testing vouchers across various testbeds (source: buildmomentum.io). New Energy Nexus targets diverse entrepreneurs from underrepresented groups, emphasizing equitable outcomes for vulnerable populations in investor-owned utility territories (source: newenergynexus.com). As a non-profit ecosystem builder, it leverages billions in follow-on investments since its inception, positioning itself as a crucial bridge for startups lacking access to private capital (source: idealist.org).

Early investments in companies like Bridgelux and Tesla have positioned New Energy Nexus as a pioneer in the clean energy sector, while ongoing projects like the Salton Sea Program aim to develop lithium supply chains around the world's largest lithium reserves (source: influencewatch.org). The organization collaborates with key clients and partners, including the California Energy Commission and various universities, to drive innovation and support startups in the clean energy space (source: newenergynexus.com).

NEX has accelerated 1,500+ startups, empowered over 10,400+ entrepreneurs, and mobilized over US$4.7 billion in investment. Since its founding in California in 2004, NEX now operates programs or advisory services in Australia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines, Thailand, the UAE, Uganda, the USA (California and New York), and Vietnam.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Network Manager is responsible for building and enhancing connectivity, coordination, and collaboration among NEX's chapters, partners, and global platform (together, the "network"). This includes building, maintaining, and improving the practical infrastructure that enables collaboration and coordination across the global New Energy Nexus network, as well as enabling the human connections that build trust and opportunities for new ideas and ways of working together to arise.
This is the first fully dedicated staff role at NEX focused on network coordination and enhancement. As a mid-level, hands-on role, the Network Manager will be responsible for turning collaboration from an aspiration into day-to-day practice-designing usable tools, maintaining shared resources, and stewarding forums where information, opportunities, and learnings can flow across the network.
The Network Manager will work closely with chapters, platform teams, and partners to identify where collaboration is breaking down or duplicative, and to design easy to use, practical solutions that make it easier for teams to share, coordinate, and build on each other's work.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Network Tools, Systems & Processes
- Design, refine, and maintain shared tools and systems that support collaboration across NEX chapters and partners
- Identify opportunities to consolidate or align fragmented resources into shared assets (e.g., refining and managing a global, shared database of mentors for entrepreneur support programs)
- Establish and document clear processes for how shared tools are used, maintained, and improved over time
- Serve as a day-to-day steward of network tools, ensuring they remain accurate, useful, and actively used
Collaboration Forums & Coordination
- Build and maintain a mix of formal and informal collaboration spaces, including online platforms, working groups, peer exchanges, and in-person convenings
- Set clear purposes, structures, and follow-up mechanisms for network forums to ensure they lead to action and learning
- Support coordination across chapters by improving visibility into who is doing what, where, and how
- Continuously assess engagement and adapt forums and coordination approaches based on participation and feedback
Member Engagement & Support
- Act as a connective point across the network, proactively linking chapters and partners to relevant peers, expertise, tools, and opportunities
- Gather feedback from network members on collaboration tools, processes, and forums, and incorporate learnings into improvements
- Surface operational or relational challenges that affect effective collaboration and coordinate with relevant teams to address them
Knowledge Management & Learning
- Building and maintaining shared spaces and knowledge management systems for documenting and exchanging tools, program models, and lessons learned
- Support the identification and sharing of successful practices that can be adapted across contexts
- Harvest insights from network activities and feed them into internal learning processes and impact storytelling
- Collaborate with the Impact Director and other platform teams to ensure network learnings are reflected in impact narratives and reporting
Requirements
Experience
- Minimum 5 years years of experience in network coordination, operations, community management, partnerships, or program support roles
- Experience in product management, building or maintaining knowledge management systems, shared tools, or databases, used by multiple teams or organizations
- Experience facilitating or supporting collaboration across teams or geographies
- Experience facilitating meetings, working groups, and leadership or cross-functional forums
- Experience working in global or multi-region environments
Competencies
- Strong organizational and systems-thinking skills
- Practical, user-centered approach to tool and process design
- Strong facilitation and relationship-building abilities
- Clear and thoughtful communicator, including cross-cultural contexts
- Proactive self-starter who is comfortable owning and maintaining ongoing work
- Comfort with digital collaboration tools (e.g., Slack, shared drives, databases, project management platforms)
- Scheduling flexibility to collaborate across time zones
- Alignment with NEX values, including collaboration, equity, and Living Ubuntu
- Adaptable and comfortable with change given the newness of the role and evolving nature of the organization
