We are currently looking to hire a Co-op Student to join our Sustainability team for an 8-month period starting in September 2026. Come gain hands-on experience with a Sustainability team that has won the Best ESG Reporting Award by the IR Magazine Awards Canada 2023 and 2024, and the Sustainability, ESG and Purpose Award by the Governance Professionals of Canada, Excellence in Governance Awards 2024.

The Co-op Student, Sustainability Reporting will help drive improvements in TransAlta's sustainability reporting, including climate reporting obligations, by implementing processes, controls and systems for consistent and accurate reporting.

This role is based at our Head Office in Downtown Calgary, with the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule.

A Day in the Life

  • Assist in developing disclosures in accordance with sustainability and climate reporting standards and regulatory obligations
  • Develop and execute procedures to test data quality and controls
  • Evaluate processes and controls to support the external reporting of sustainability and climate data and information
  • Consolidate data from various sources and apply data analytical skills
  • Improve internal controls for performance monitoring and target setting
  • Work cross-functionally to develop policies and other governance tools
  • Participate in meetings and assist in preparation of deliverables and reports

About You

  • Must be currently enrolled in a University Co-Op or Internship program
  • Must be currently enrolled in a university degree such as data analytics, business, accounting, economics or other relevant disciplines
  • Must be available for an 8-month term starting in September
  • Interest in sustainability, climate and environmental, social and governance (ESG) matters
  • Proficient in core office programs (i.e.: MS office) and capable of learning other programs
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Attention to detail
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
