This position will be within the Fluence Digital business unit. Fluence Digital’s IQ platform uses artificial intelligence, advanced price forecasting, portfolio optimization and market bidding to ensure energy storage and flexible generation assets are optimally participating in wholesale electricity markets.

As a Construction Manager, you will

  • Support the Fluence HSE Manager in site audits and pro-active management of Health and Safety on sites
  • Ensure all method statements and risk assessments are robust, up to date, understood and implemented
  • If variations are required to the RAMS, to proactively recommended working methods that are required and manage the adjustments in conjunction with the Health & Safety Manager in producing a robust set of RAMS that ensure work can proceed in compliance, safely and without undue delay
  • Review all project documentation supplied in the Construction Work Package to ensure that it is the correct documentation for the project. Review construction designs and participate in project design coordination
  • Provide technical assistance and support
  • Ensure that contractors fully understand all Fluence installation documentation and ensure that construction is as per documentation
  • Coordinate with Quality Manager for proper testing, inspection, and documentation of all phases of the project
  • Ensure that the Construction Management process and its impact on project delivery is clearly understood by all site teams and construction professionals
  • Manage the deployment of subcontractors and plant to the projects in conjunction with the site delivery teams
  • Co-ordinate and manage close working relationships with external contractors, consultants, suppliers, and other relevant stakeholders throughout the construction process
  • Co-ordinate with the wider project delivery team to ensure projects are constructed in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner
  • Inspect and review the project’s H&S documents to ensure compliance with safety codes and regulations and highlight any deficiencies to the Site Manager or Contractors Supervisor and Fluence’s Project Manager
  • Ensure that all work carried out on site is in strict compliance with the work procedures and current health and safety legislation
  • Monitor the Civil and BoP (Balance of Plant) contractors project construction plans and deliverables to ensure that they are aligned with the overall project plan and milestones
  • Partner all projects within the area of responsibility to ensure the right quantity, quality and skills mix of operatives are provided within agreed timelines – both at site set up and during the full life cycle of the project
  • Keep written logs of on-site activity. Prepare weekly site report to the Project Manager regarding the works on site, this report shall include the status, the anticipated progress and key concerns for safety or schedule
  • Inspection of construction work and comparing it with drawings and specifications
  • Prepare monthly reports for each project to be submitted to the allocated Project Manager for review and submission to the client
  • Maintain red-line drawings as needed
  • Check all site deliveries are as per packing note and immediately notify PM of deficiencies or quality issues
  • Review variation claims against the Employer Requirements document and advise Fluence in determining resolution of claims
  • Participate in weekly project review meetings
  • Manage multiple Construction teams, locally and nationally with the emphasis on an efficient and cost-effective service for Fluence
  • Undertake weekly review of all technical communication including FCR and FTBs. Organise any additional resource and spares required through an approved supplier. Update program to incorporate
  • Prepare and manage project punch lists, participate in readiness and punch list walkdowns
  • Demonstrate proactive creativity in finding a safe and cost-effective solution for technical challenges, that occur on site, and manage the coordination of all interfaces involved that are key for project success
  • Ensure pre-requisites for all commissioning activities are met
  • Liaison with the service team to ensure effective handover into the operational phase

Qualifications

The following qualities/experience are essential

  • Experienced in delivering technically complex projects
  • 10 years’ experience in similar roles
  • Experienced in client facing situations
  • Strong technical and financial acumen
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Fully familiar with interpretation of drawings, specifications and engineering procedures.
  • Experience of successfully managing and delivering a range of construction related projects.
  • Tackles problems head-on and works to resolve them without delay.
  • Proactively builds knowledge through sharing ideas and expertise with others.
  • Adapts positively to changing business and customer demands.
  • Experience of supporting the management of project budgets.
  • Knowledge and understanding of construction/health & safety legislation.
  • Can clearly demonstrate ability to adhere to programmes and deadlines across multiple project sites.

The following qualities/experience are desirable

  • Experience of Battery Energy Storage projects would be an advantage
  • Willingness to take on a mentoring role to Construction Managers

Head of Construction in terms of business priorities, workload, and personal development.

Location

The position will be site based, additionally the successful candidate must be willing to travel to meet project and business requirements.
