Wind Project Engineer

Responsibilities
- Be outcome driven by communicating cross-functionally within our Tokyo office and collaborate with our Chicago headquarters team, including interfacing with Tokyo and Chicago engineering, project development, C&I energy markets, finance, environmental, and GIS teams to support project development, offtake, financing, and permitting efforts. Interface with the project management and operations teams leading up to and through project commercial operation. Ensure timely and complete transfer of technical responsibilities.
- Identify critical obstacles to execute projects and carry out necessary countermeasures
- Lead preliminary technical due diligence of prospective wind energy projects. Have the ability to interpret the applicable codes and standards often written in Japanese and English
- Coordinate site characterization studies with industry experts, evaluate project constraints, and design optimized project layouts utilizing GIS software in order to maximize project value
- Design site measurement campaigns, analyze available meteorological datasets, and establish opinion of long-term resource characteristics at multiple project sites. Work with development asset management team to deploy meteorological campaign equipment and ensure sufficient uptime of said equipment
- Model expected energy production and affiliated key metrics, including gross and net capacity factors, production profiles (8760s, diurnals), energy uncertainty, and probability values using software such as Windographer, Openwind, MASCOT, RIAM-COMPACT, etc.
- Organize, lead, and work with industry consultants, suppliers, and permitting agencies as required to obtain wind farm certification
- Support pre-construction efforts by maintaining project site plans, inclusive of wind turbine layout, preliminary electrical collection cable and access road siting, and other balance of plant considerations, as well as facilitating preliminary and final geotechnical investigations.
- Conduct site visits to support site evaluation and wind turbine micrositing. Participate in landowner meetings, community outreach events, and construction meetings as requested by development team
- Collaborate closely with dedicated engineering team through electrical/civil design and with project management team to execute projects through construction phase.
- Maintain working knowledge of wind turbine technology and affiliated technical and market trends. Work with wind turbine Original Equipment Manufacturers, to optimize equipment selection for projects as it relates to power curves, operational modes, mechanical suitability considerations, and curtailment strategies
- Conduct post prediction assessment utilizing operational data and update in-house prediction tooling.
