We are seeking a highly motivated, results-oriented professional to drive exceptional team performance and relentlessly pursue opportunities for enhancing plant performance and reliability.

The Sr. Director of Operations will be responsible for overseeing and optimizing the daily operations of our current assets, which include 2.3 GW of PV and 2.4 GWh of BESS. This role is crucial to ensuring our projects run smoothly, meet availability and production targets, adhere to opex budgets, and continuously improve operational efficiencies.

Reporting to the VP of Operations, the Sr. Director of Operations will lead a team of 5 professionals dedicated to physical plant performance. This position will also collaborate closely with the asset management, operational compliance, and operational technology teams within the broader Operations department. Additionally, the Sr. Director of Operations will work in close partnership with our trading, engineering, and EHS teams and support the company in delivering our future portfolios of PV, BESS, and wind assets.

Our Operations department ensures that our renewable energy assets are operated to the highest standards and is responsible for project operations, asset management, operational compliance and operational technology, as well as supporting the rest of the company in the delivery of future portfolios of projects. Currently, the department consists of 10 dedicated professionals. With the company’s rapid growth, the department is expected to expand significantly in the coming years to support new projects and initiatives.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Lead and manage all aspects of day to day operations for our operating energy projects, from planning to execution.
  • Take responsibility for ensuring our operating energy projects safely meet their availability and production targets by promptly identifying and remedying plant performance and other site issues.
  • Facilitate clear and effective communication to executives regarding project status, maintenance issues and plant performance.
  • Develop and implement operational strategies and processes that align with the company’s goals and objectives, including strategies and processes that enhance operational efficiency and plant performance.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and safety standards.
  • Oversee, manage and mentor a team of operations professionals focused on operational technology, physical plant performance, and onboarding and warranty management, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee third party O&M providers and assist in their selection for future portfolios of projects.
  • Oversee the development and execution of operational budgets, ensuring cost-effectiveness.
  • Work cross functionally with other departments including engineering, finance, development, EHS, trading and legal to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key external stakeholders, including OEMs, other suppliers, EPC and O&M contractors, and regulatory agencies.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 10+ years of experience in operations management within the renewable energy sector, with a focus on solar, BESS, and wind energy.
  • In-depth knowledge of PV and BESS technologies, including system design, operations, and maintenance.
  • Strong understanding of energy market dynamics, regulatory frameworks, and industry trends.
  • Experience with assets in either CAISO or ERCOT.
  • Proven track record of managing large-scale renewable energy projects from inception through operation.
  • Highly motivated, results oriented professional who will drive exceptional performance from the team and will be relentless in identifying and capturing opportunities for improvement in plant performance and reliability.
  • Extensive experience interfacing with OEMs and contractors on warranty matters.
  • Extensive experience with RCA methodology and remediations.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and develop high-performing teams.
  • Direct experience managing field personnel.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Track record of developing and maintaining processes and procedures.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory and safety requirements in the renewable energy industry.
  • Experience with budgeting and financial management.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.

Physical and Sensory Requirements

  • Mostly sedentary work; using standard office equipment including: a computer, keyboard, and telephone.
  • Position is part of a remote team, with regular electronic and video communication
  • Position requires some travel up to 30% including 4 weeks a year for company-wide meetups.
  • Site travel to remote locations and ability to work in adverse environments as needed.

  • Salary: USD$180,000 - $195,000 USD base salary with 20-30% annual target bonus
