Job Description

As our Utility Implementation Manager, you’ll be responsible for driving utility approval for all ConnectDER products. Reporting to the VP of Policy and Market Strategy, you’ll take ownership of the entire approval process—from submitting products and delivering key documentation to guiding testing and ensuring smooth implementation. In this role, you’ll provide expert support that aligns with industry standards and best practices, ensuring our utility partners are confident in their procedures, well-trained, and fully equipped to understand and leverage our products to their fullest potential. This is a remote position open to candidates located in California or on the East Coast, with a 25–50% travel expectation to utility sites.

Core Functions/Duties

  • Work with Market Opening, Product, Sales, and Engineering teams to support utilities in their interactions with ConnectDER products.
  • Design, deliver, and support test plans for utility approval of ConnectDER products.
  • Develop and deliver training sessions for utilities on product installation, functionality, best practices, usability, and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Provide expert technical support to utility personnel, specifically focusing on ConnectDER products and meter socket adapters.
  • Conduct on-site visits to troubleshoot, test, install, and maintain procedures for ConnectDER products.
  • Act as a liaison between utilities and internal teams, ensuring seamless communication and resolution of technical issues.
  • Support external certification processes against applicable safety and quality standards – UL (414, 916, 489), ANSI (C12), NEC, etc., including working with external test labs and on-site witness testing, scheduling, and performing certification tests.
  • Stay informed of standards changes impacting the product and how they influence product features, design, and installation.
  • Stay informed of industry trends and technological advancements in the utility industry, and how they influence product features, design, and installation.

Compensation range for this role begins at $110,000 + bonus + equity

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related Technical Discipline, Required
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering or related Technical Discipline, Preferred

Required Experience

  • 8+ years’ experience as an electric utility engineer, application engineer or similar technical role.
  • Experience in application testing, system integration testing and hardware testing of electrical and/or electromechanical systems or mechanical hardware with NRTL listings, or hardware / software-based products in the energy sector.
  • Experience in writing clear, concise, and comprehensive test plans, test strategies, test cases, and test reports.
  • Experience supporting stakeholders from differing geographies and disciplines.
  • Experience leading and supporting product approval, implementation, use, and support with external stakeholders.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in test development and/or certification for Electric Meters, Meter Sockets and Adapters, Circuit Breakers, or AC power management applications.
  • Knowledge of residential PV, Battery Energy Storage Systems, and/or Electric Vehicle Systems are a plus.
  • Specific experience with UL414, ANSI C12.1, UL746C, UL2745, UL1449, UL489, and IEC standards are a plus.
  • SWOT and research based analytical skills.
  • Experience with secondary voltage systems and residential electrical wiring.
  • Experience with NEC / NFPA guidelines and standards.

Key Competencies

  • Strong understanding of electric utility practices, procedures, and processes.
  • Strong knowledge of ANSI and UL standards and testing procedures or similar certifications for hardware-based devices.
  • Excellent mathematical and analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team, minimal supervision expected for day-to-day activities, and cross functional engagement.
  • Motivated and resourceful.
  • Expertise and professionalism communicating in written and oral form.
  • Conflict resolution and advanced problem-solving skills.

Work Environment/Physical Demands: Must have the ability to work on a computer for extended periods of time with or without accommodation.

Work authorization/security clearance requirements

US Salary Range

$110,000 - $120,000 USD
