What you’ll be doing

As a Senior Data Engineer you will play a pivotal role in creating a robust, secure, and scalable data infrastructure for both operational and analytical data pipelines. Tasked with building and optimizing data flows, you’ll work to transform raw data into actionable insights while also implementing best practices in data governance and security. This role involves designing, deploying, and maintaining scalable data solutions to support product growth, enhancing data accessibility, and implementing data security protocols. You’ll collaborate closely with product, engineering, and analytics teams to develop processes that ensure data integrity, availability, and compliance, setting up the company for sustainable data-driven decision-making. Experience with real-time streaming data and/or life cycle management of machine learning models is a plus.

Direct stakeholders are data scientists, business analysts and product managers who needs structured, high quality data in their daily work. The role includes identifying competence gaps in the domain as well as onboarding and mentoring of data engineers and the broader organization as a whole in ways of working.

Detailed scope of the assignment will be set and revised continuously together with CTO but overall responsibilities include:

  • Design and implement data architecture including ETL pipelines, storage and backup procedures to enable key user flows
  • Work together with leadership and stakeholders to ensure data brings maximum value to Greenly's business
  • Ensure data is reliable and available for analysis by stakeholders, that naming conventions are used consistently and unambiguously.
  • Implement system for life-cycle management and version control of ML models including training- and evaluation datasets.
  • Setup process to enable monitoring of key operational robustness metrics ensuring problems are alerted and escalated in a timely manner
  • Create system support to track what data is stored where, for what purpose and who has access to it. This to facilitate compliance with regulatory procedures and user requirements
  • Together with technical leadership craft and implement relevant policies and procedures to enable scalability, regulatory compliance and security aspects

What you'll need to succeed

  1. Data Architecture & Engineering:
    • Proven experience designing and implementing scalable data architectures, including ETL pipelines and storage solutions.
    • Expertise in database technologies (SQL and NoSQL), data modeling, and performance optimization.
    • Knowledge of real-time data streaming technologies (e.g., Kafka, Spark Streaming) is a plus.
  2. Data Governance & Security:
    • Strong understanding of data governance frameworks, data cataloging, and regulatory compliance.
    • Ability to implement robust security protocols to ensure data privacy and protection.
  3. Data Pipeline Optimization:
    • Hands-on experience building and optimizing data workflows for both operational and analytical use cases.
    • Ability to ensure data reliability, consistency, and availability through proactive monitoring and troubleshooting.
  4. Monitoring & Metrics:
    • Expertise in setting up monitoring systems for operational metrics to proactively address system issues.
