Electrical Engineer

Canopy Power is a Singapore-based provider of renewable energy microgrid solutions. We empower communities and businesses to move to a cleaner energy future by offering renewable energy solutions to remote and island-based customers, including design, EPC and financing of complete microgrids. We enable off-grid energy users to save diesel fuel costs by optimizing the existing energy generation system, integrating renewable energy generation and energy storage with existing diesel generation to reduce energy OpEx, carbon emissions and diesel dependence.

We are a vibrant start-up company with a close-knit team and are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated candidate to join our engineering team. While working with us, the candidate will learn about one of the fastest growing segments in renewable energy industry – hybrid/off-grid microgrids. This technology has potential to change lives of millions of people and thousands of businesses by providing them access to cleaner and cheaper 24/7 electricity. Currently 1.2 billion people lack access to reliable power; hundreds of millions of them are located in SE Asia.

You will help Canopy Power with system engineering, design, and project execution of microgrid projects on site. Today we are active in Indonesia, Cambodia, Myanmar, Philippines, Maldives and South Pacific.

Electrical Engineer Position

Location: Singapore (Full time)

Job Responsibilities

• Assist the sales division within the sizing and selection of Solar & BESS systems for tender/pitching purposes.
• Conduct overseas site evaluations and assess engineering designs for Solar and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects across all project stages.
• Lead the development of Microgrid solar projects, working closely with subcontractors to ensure construction is up to expectations.
• Follow through on the detailed engineering phase with chosen partners, ensuring adherence to Technical Specifications and relevant legal requirements as per contract requirements
• Supervise and monitor on-site construction and commissioning processes to ensure alignment with design specifications.
• Offer technical insights for Operation & Maintenance (O&M) activities, such as developing O&M manuals and setting up solar monitoring systems.
• Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to enhance project delivery continually.
• Actively engage with partners to stay updated with their newest technological advancement.
• Participate in the establishment of a Quality Management System as necessary.
• Undertake additional duties and responsibilities as directed by Electrical Engineer Manager.

Job Requirements

• A bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical or electronics or energy engineering from an accredited university. Additional certifications in Management Administration, Safety, Project Management, or Quality Management would be beneficial.
• Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in designing off-grid solar microgrids.
• Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles in AC, DC systems.
• Proficient in design software like PVsyst, Helioscope, SolarGIS, and Homer Pro.
• Comprehensive understanding, technical expertise, and practical involvement in the design and construction of off-grid solar PV BESS projects.
• Experience in the operation and maintenance of off-grid solar microgrids.
• Knowledge and involvement in HV transmission lines (AC or DC), HV substations design, construction, operation, and maintenance is advantageous.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making abilities.
• Capability to work independently, collaboratively within a team, and willingness to travel.
• Proficient in English, with effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to converse in mandarin with supplier is a plus.
• Experience in Project Management is considered a plus.
