Job Description

Principle Power is a leading global technology and services provider for the floating offshore wind energy market. The WindFloat®, the company’s globally and proven floating platform technology, enables offshore wind turbines to be sited in any water depth or seabed condition, unlocking offshore wind potential worldwide and allowing projects to harvest the best wind resources. Principle Power acts as a trusted partner to developers, independent power producers, utilities, and EPCs, supporting its customers throughout the entire lifecycle of their projects. With 105 MW of cumulative capacity in operation or under advanced development and a multi-GW commercial pipeline globally, Principle Power is the market leader in floating offshore wind technology.

In the context of our multiple worldwide projects on the next generation of WindFloat® platforms, we would like to reinforce our Engineering team with a Senior Global Performance Engineer/Naval Architect. Principle Power is focused on the commercial-scale deployment of floating wind farms. The successful candidate will work on the engineering and design of the next generation of offshore floating wind turbines.

The Senior Engineer is capable to carry out the engineering work with minimum guidance to share the Global Performance Group responsibilities. This position reports to the Global Performance Discipline Manager.

Group Description

The Global Performance Group splits its focus between the execution of engineering activities in support of current commercial projects and the execution of R&D studies to optimize the performance and ultimately reduce the cost of the WindFloat technology for future projects.

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES

Group Responsibilities

  • Hull global sizing based on project specific conditions (Metocean data, site/project specifics including facilities, wind turbine selected).
  • Stability analysis for pre-service and in-service conditions
  • Global performance analysis including Design Load Case philosophy, motion analysis, airgap analysis and load calculations.
  • Active ballast system specification and modelling
  • Internal engineering interface with Structures, Marine Systems, Mooring/Cables and Installation
  • Internal interface with Project Management, Business Development, Technology
  • External interface with wind turbine manufacturers, Classification Societies, and Clients
  • Technical support to Projects during execution of procurement, installation, operation and inspection

Description of Role

The Principal Global Performance Engineer will provide subject matter expert (SME) level technical leadership, expertise and support to the Global Performance Group and across Principle Power’s global Engineering team.

This position reports to the Global Performance Discipline Manager.

Professional in this position carries the technical supervision of engineering work in coordination with Discipline Manager's managerial contribution.

Position Main Accountabilities

  • Know, understand, comply, support, promote and enforce Principle Power’s Code of Conduct, its Mission, Vision and Values statement, the QHSE Policy, other internal compliance policies (including Anti-Corruption & Bribery, Conflicts of Interest, and Gifts & Hospitality), and all Processes and Procedures included in the Company’s Management System.
  • Encourage and empower others to follow the above and to comply with all applicable laws and regulations, to achieve a Safe and Healthy workplace and to protect the Environment. Exercise responsibility and authority to stop any activity that may be harmful to any person, asset, or the environment.

Commercial Project Execution:

  • Review Design Basis and Design Methodology Report
  • Support and/or manage Group work product delivery (as WP Technical Authority or as multi-WP Project Engineer).
  • Support the design of capabilities that accelerate design process effectiveness and ensure quality during the execution of commercial projects.
  • Building hydrodynamic and coupled aero-hydro model.
  • Reviews component weight information from all design disciplines. Reviews global weight summary and reviews weight report on regular basis.
  • Reviews Metocean data analysis, based on hindcast data or field measurements.
  • Perform global performance design and analysis, following proper QAQC process and project schedule.
  • Review, check and/or approve technical work products generated by others in the Group.
  • Review technical documentation to external parties:
  • Clients,
  • Certification bodies,
  • MWS and other relevant entities.

Follow and improve group's methodologies:

  • Support or lead the definition, development, review and approval of design methodologies, numerical models and design procedures/processes.
  • Support or lead discipline development and improvement initiatives, including through the management of other Engineers of the Group.
  • Provide technical guidance, train and mentor to GP Engineers and Senior GP Engineers across technical disciplines of the Group according to subject matter expertise.
  • Support the selection of internal or external design tools/software.

Research and Development:

  • Support the Technology Group in the execution/definition of the WindFloat R&D program.
  • Support and/or manage Group delivery and ensure quality work products on R&D projects (internal and external).
  • Support the Group in the capture and implementation of commercial project lessons learned to improve next generation WindFloat hull designs.
  • Contribute to improvement of group's numerical tools and processes, by leading improvement initiatives and their documentation.

Skills & Competencies

  • Master of science or above in a relevant field of engineering (ocean engineering, naval architecture, mechanical engineering, civil/structural engineering, material science, etc.)
  • Proven technical expertise and leadership skills in the field of hydrodynamics, aerodynamics and structural dynamics. Knowledge of control systems is an advantage.
  • Comprehensive experience in performing, reviewing and supervising aerodynamic and hydrodynamic analysis, design and engineering deliverables.
  • Minimum ten (10) years of professional experience in the design of floating offshore structures for pre-FEED/FEED/Detailed design. Design of floating wind platforms would be an advantage.
  • Minimum five (5) years of professional experience working with hydrodynamics and aerodynamics tools such as Rhino, Orca3D, WAMIT, OrcaFlex and openFAST or equivalent software.
  • Proficiency in two or more programming languages (Python or Matlab).
  • Strong technical skills (numerical modeling and data analysis)
  • Strong communicator (written and oral), especially for technical topics.
  • Systematic and detail-oriented;
  • Ability to deliver high-quality outputs under pressure;
  • Proactive and self-motivated;
