Lunar Energy was founded to transition homes to 100% clean energy—making our electricity greener, our air cleaner, and our energy more safe, secure and reliable for all. We’re a fast-growing, global company building the world’s best clean energy products to electrify all homes and connect communities to form clean, resilient virtual power plants.

Lunar Energy is seeking an Applications Engineer to serve as a vital liaison between end product users (home owners), installers (Lunar’s direct customers) and Lunar’s Engineering and Operations teams. They leverage customer feedback and sales data to design, develop, test, and implement sophisticated hardware and software solutions. By providing technical support and expertise, they ensure that applications meet customer needs and address common challenges. You will be responsible for the go-to-market of the Lunar System, our next-gen solar and battery energy storage system, and expanding to other energy hardware products that enable all-electric homes. You will play a key role in gathering market requirements and creating and maintaining roadmaps to develop scalable, compelling product offerings. You will have a critical, cross-functional role, ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality hardware products and a world-class experience for both end customers and installers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Documentation: Create, review, and update technical support documentation.
  • Customer Training: Work with a team to train customers (solar and battery sales reps, designers, permit coordinators, installers, etc.) on Lunar products. This will involve hosting live, in-person and remote training sessions, as well as creating a written/recorded training package.
  • Fleet Monitoring and Data Analysis: Work with software engineers to validate FW releases, track product health, and identify failure and pre-failure telemetry signatures
  • Tier 3 Support: Collaborate with and support the Tier 2 team to troubleshoot issues in the field
  • RMA approvals: Develop processes to remotely troubleshoot issues, approve hardware replacements where appropriate, and facilitate Engineering teams to root cause returned merchandise
  • Project Management: Handle project and task management
  • Product Improvement: Research and recommend improvements to products and systems.
  • Quality Assurance (people): Ensure the quality of work performed by team members.
  • Quality Assurance (product): Collaborate with departmental teams to ensure the quality of product reaching installers on day 0, and for the warrantied life of the product
  • Product Roadmap: Create and maintain product roadmaps. Craft detailed business cases, and market and product requirements to ruthlessly drive prioritization with program management, engineering, and commercial teams
  • Adherence to Standards: Adhere to and contribute to development policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Problem-Solving: Solve complex issues or recommend solutions.
  • Presentations: Present product value propositions, differentiations, and benefits effectively to end customers, installers, and internal teams. Collaborate with sales and marketing teams to create compelling marketing materials and clear product messaging.
  • Mentorship: Instruct and guide less senior engineers, electricians, and technicians
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Interact with business stakeholders to refine requirements and feedback.
  • User Interaction: Interact with the user community to solve problems and improve the system.
  • Estimation and Analysis: Estimate high-level business requirements and provide options analysis.
  • Incident Management: Ensure resolved incidents are properly documented and closed.

Desired Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with sales engineering, application engineering, or product management in the energy sector.
  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Engineering or a related field
  • Experience developing or commercializing energy products, including solar, energy storage, EV charging, or other power equipment products.
  • Ability to quickly grasp product capabilities and constraints, and effectively communicate to non-technical audiences.
  • Experience working with hardware OEMs on vendor qualification and co-development
  • Exceptional analytical skills and the ability to synthesize large qualitative and quantitative information from market research, sales feedback, and customer conversations into actionable product insights.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to execute parallel projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance and interconnection process of DERs
  • Deep passion for home electrification, sustainable energy, and user-centric designs.
