What you'll be doing

Reporting to the Overhead Line Principal Engineer within the Strategic Team, you'll lead engineering solutions from feasibility to detailed design for transmission network projects (132kV+).

• Lead technical design and delivery of cable and OHL systems, ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards.
• Act as primary technical interface with EPC and OEM contractors; ensure consistency across Strategic Projects.
• Review engineering documentation for feasibility and compliance; advise on construction and outage programs.
• Prepare specifications and cost estimates for complex, high-value cable and OHL designs.
• Resolve statutory, land, and consent issues for cable and OHL routes.
• Evaluate tender submissions and provide technical recommendations.
• Define equipment requirements for SCAs, technical specs, and BETTA documentation.
• Review and prepare drawings and specifications for construction and procurement.
• Manage technical correspondence and documentation for project teams.
• Ensure designs and practices meet legislation, policies, and operational standards.
• Lead resolution of site/construction issues and prevent fault recurrence.
• Support tender assessments and bid evaluations.
• Provide technical guidance to Pre-Contract and Delivery teams.
• Prepare quality documentation aligned with client and SPEN processes.
• Promote industry best practices and innovation for cost, safety, and efficiency improvements.
• Contribute to training and development of technical and safety packages.
• Mentor junior staff and collaborate across global engineering teams.

What You'll Bring

• Extensive experience in transmission OHL and related equipment.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Proven ability to apply CDM and H&S best practices in design.
• Capable of representing engineering decisions and standards at senior levels.

Minimum Requirements

• Degree or HND/HNC in Engineering with relevant experience.
• Demonstrated success in delivering complex transmission cable/OHL designs.
• Skilled in technical writing and influencing senior stakeholders.
