Scientific Project Manager

We have an awesome Project Manager job for you! We are Whiffle, a scale-up in Delft with an innovative weather prediction model that delivers benefits in many economic sectors. Our primary focus is companies in the renewable energy sector in Europe… and this is where you come in!

What You Are Going to Do

You will be focused on leading and coordinating scientific projects from initiation through to completion; delivering the results to our customers, industry partners and academic partners on scope, on time and within budget. You love to help others succeed and this will be clear in your interactions with customers and your colleagues.

Within Whiffle there are two main project types: shorter (one-three month) customer projects, and longer (one-three year) contracted research projects. In addition to managing these projects, you will also take ownership of the contracted research projects: discussing potential projects with partners, writing proposals, and presenting project updates and results. Our projects are within the domains of renewable energy and atmospheric physics. Examples of past and ongoing scientific projects include Smart4RES (Home - Smart4RES), WINS50 (WINS50 - Winds of the North Sea in 2050) Meridional (Homepage - Meridional) and Digiwind (DIGIWIND).

In addition, you will have a high level, strategic view of project processes and workflows, seeking to continuously improve our quality, efficiency, and ability to serve our customers.

We have a unique product and large growth ambitions which means a lot of opportunities for you as a project manager to learn and grow! We will support you getting started with an assigned buddy and training on the various systems and workflows within Whiffle. You will be working within the Operations department but will have close contact with Software Development, R&D, Sales, and of course, our customers.

What You Bring

You have a MSc or PhD degree in a technical field of study, though you retain the character of a generalist. Perhaps you did a PhD or post-doc and you love working on innovative things, but realised an academic career is not your preferred path. In that case, this could be the perfect job for you. You are a well-organized person with good communication skills and are a skilled project manager with a relevant track record. You realise how important it is to ensure that excellent scientific work or good ideas are written down clearly and concisely in reports and proposals. You are comfortable getting into the details in order to move a project forward, but also taking a broader view of processes to drive continuous improvement. Experience within the fields of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), atmospheric physics and meteorology are a plus.

For you it is easy to connect with people and you enjoy solving issues and helping others succeed. We have customers all over the world, so you are able to communicate fluently in English. Our organization is growing and not everything has been figured out yet, so flexibility, creativity and responsibility is expected. We will teach you all about our products so far as is necessary. With your natural curiosity you can quickly acquire this knowledge and provide customers with the correct information. To stay connected and learn from your colleagues, it is important that you live in the Netherlands to join us in our office in Delft.
