Job Description
Our goal is to make clean power accessible, to accelerate the shift to zero carbon power and transport.
We’re building and operating the world’s most sophisticated battery systems to enable the uptake of more renewable power and accelerating fleet electrification, de-risking the transition to zero-emission transport at scale. We’ve been consistently innovative since we were founded in 2017, achieving major industry firsts and using proprietary software and data analysis to optimise operational performance for our customers. At the end of their life, we repurpose electric vehicle batteries to provide clean power at depots, on construction sites and film sets.
Today we have 730 MW of grid scale battery storage operational and under construction and are the largest owner and operator of EV buses in the UK, Australia and New Zealand, supporting over 1,000 electric vehicles worldwide. In our first five years we have raised nearly £1.8 billion in funding and have expanded into other markets such as the US. Our rapidly growing company is looking for highly talented and motivated people to join us.
The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Commissioning Manager to take a lead role in the execution and completion of some of the largest and most technologically advanced BESS systems in Europe.
The role will be key in ensuring that the installation, energisation and testing of our BESS assets are completed efficiently and to the highest standard. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in the commissioning of electrical infrastructure, ideally up to 400kV, with a good understanding of the requirements of connecting energy infrastructure on to the UK transmission network.
The Commissioning Manager will work closely across project teams, engineering, third party contractors, transmission operators and NESO to ensure that our BESS assets are installed, tested and become fully operational. The role will cover all aspects of commissioning including balance of plant, HV grid connection and BESS systems.
This is an 18-month fixed term contract with the potential to become permanent for the right person. This is a site based role with opportunity to work from home/office on occasion; the majority of our sites are located in Scotland.
A Taste of the Day to Day
- Lead and manage the commissioning process for all systems from initial planning stages through to sign off and handover to operations.
- Support quality control through design and installation phases, ensuring ITP’s are in place, followed and signed off.
- Work alongside contractors to develop detailed commissioning plans, schedules and procedures.
- Oversee the installation, testing and start up of electrical systems including batteries, inverters, transformers, switchgear, control systems and protection systems.
- Work closely with the BESS OEM to co-ordinate BESS commissioning and testing activities, ensuring full engagement with the ESO control desk.
- Act as the client representative on the Transmission Operator commissioning panel meetings and ensure all requirements are met in order to achieve site EON, ION and FON.
- Work with construction teams to ensure all activities are carried out safely and comply with relevant codes, standards and regulations.
- Collaborate with project managers, construction managers, engineers and contractors to ensure seamless execution of the commissioning process.
- Ensure the completion of all required compliance and testing documentation for final project handover.
- Monitor, track and report back on commissioning progress both before and after energisation.
