Position Overview
Ameresco is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Staff Accountant to join our Corporate Accounting team. This role is hybrid and based out of our Framingham, MA office. This role plays a critical part in ensuring accurate financial reporting through comprehensive cash account reconciliation and analysis, timely journal entry preparation, and thorough account reconciliations. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong analytical skills, a commitment to process improvement, and the ability to collaborate across departments.
Responsibilities
- Cash Reconciliation & Journal Entries
- Perform daily and monthly cash account reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies in cash transactions and balances.
- Prepare and record journal entries related to cash activity, including bank fees, transfers, and adjustments.
- Maintain supporting documentation for all cash-related entries and reconciliations.
- Month-End Close
- Support the month-end close process by preparing and reviewing journal entries across various general ledger accounts.
- Compile and analyze financial data to ensure accurate reporting and compliance with accounting standards.
- Prepare account reconciliations and accompanying schedules for assigned accounts.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with corporate departments and business units to address routine transactions and inquiries.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate month-end close activities.
- Compliance & Controls
- Assist in maintaining SOX compliance through proper documentation and adherence to internal controls.
- Support internal and external audit requests related to cash and general ledger activities.
- Process Improvement
- Identify and implement opportunities for process efficiencies in cash management and journal entry workflows.
- Contribute to the development of accounting guidelines, training materials, and documentation.
- Additional Duties
- Complete ad-hoc reporting, analysis, and special projects as assigned.
- Perform other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Minimum of 3 months of experience in general accounting, with a strong focus on cash reconciliation and journal entry preparation.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
Additional Qualifications
- Experience with MS Dynamics 365 (D365), BlackLine, or similar project accounting systems preferred.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
