Job Description

The Program Director will be an integral part of both internal and external organizational management; crafting and advancing SEWC's program and policy priorities, leading internal operations, assisting with organizational strategy and funding development. The Director will manage staff career development, maintain and build new relationships with important stakeholders, and direct other high level business of the organization. Depending on location, this position will build and lead various outreach and education efforts, either directly or in conjunction with Program staff. You will be a key staff member, working closely with SEWC's President, in a small, energetic, growing, and mission-driven organization. This position requires a self-starter with a can-do attitude. Must be able to work independently, build strong relationships and provide effective staff development and internal organization. This position reports to the President.

Duties

  • Development and execution of external organizational strategy
  • Lead annual strategic planning efforts
  • Identify and lead new initiatives to advance wind energy in the Southeast
  • Support efforts with philanthropic funders interested in clean energy
  • Lead internal organization efforts, including SOP development and implementation, staff meetings, manager trainings, and career development plans
  • Align internal processes, resource planning and allocation across programs to support overall organizational strategy
  • Serve as an industry expert in a variety of settings including industry events, educational forums, and media outlets
  • Directly and indirectly manage staff, contractors, and interns
  • Partner with staff to develop state strategy and programs
  • Grow early career staff in ways that allow them to achieve success
  • Develop and communicate SEWC's position on wind specific policies at the state and federal levels, regulatory docket filings, etc.
  • Perform research and analysis on legislation, regulation, economics, energy markets, and a variety of other topics (technology, wind impacts, etc.)
  • Work with the team to educate/convene stakeholders and decision-makers
  • Create/maintain relationships with various stakeholders including federal lawmakers, local governments, state/federal agencies, universities, NGOs, wind industry supply chain companies, wind developers, utilities, economic developers

Qualifications

Must Haves

  • Minimum 10 years experience in energy, environment, and/or policy
  • Proven track record of serving in a leadership role that focuses on convening stakeholders with varied perspectives
  • Experience with strategic planning, understanding and shaping external goals and strategic initiatives to augment the reach of SEWC's mission
  • The candidate must be a self starter and be able to provide examples of proactive thinking and initiatives
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, set priorities, work effectively from home and maintain a positive attitude
  • Provide inspirational leadership, give constructive feedback, and understand the importance of career development planning
  • A passion for seeing the clean energy industry grow and helping to make it happen
  • A commitment to the advancement of the Southeastern region of the United States
  • Excellent oral and written presentation skills along with a good eye for digestible social media posts, fact sheets, and other external materials

Other Details

  • Competitive non-profit salary commensurate with experience ($95k-$120k for director level hire)
  • SEWC provides a flexible work schedule, 401k contribution, paid time off, sick leave, monthly health care reimbursement, and a great work environment
  • SEWC works throughout the Southeast and does not have office space. Employee will work from home, and must be based in the Southeast - please do not apply if you can not live in one of SEWC's 10 target states (VA, NC, SC, GA, AL, MS, LA, AR, KY, TN)
  • Travel averages 10-20%, primarily in the Southeast
