At ORE Catapult, we are driving the future of offshore renewable energy. As the UK's leading technology innovation and research centre for offshore wind, wave, and tidal energy, we develop cutting-edge solutions and deliver impactful research to support the energy transition.
We are looking for a Product Development & Test Engineer to support the delivery of innovative product development, testing and validation activities for Floating Offshore Wind. You will contribute to pioneering engineering projects and play a vital role in advancing the next generation of offshore renewable energy systems.
Position
As a Product Development & Test Engineer, you will:
- Deliver product development and testing activities relating to Floating Offshore Wind.
- Develop testing methodologies for mooring line and dynamic cabling systems and act as the technical authority for these projects.
- Produce and maintain design documentation in line with industry and customer standards.
- Work closely with the Test Laboratory team and wider engineering specialists to develop and improve testing equipment and processes.
- Support commercial activities, including project tendering, proposal development and client engagement.
- Chair concept and design reviews with colleagues and external clients.
- Apply engineering validation techniques to ensure design concepts meet required technical standards.
- Maintain accurate design records aligned with relevant technical specifications.
- Ensure all engineering work adheres to Health & Safety legislation and best practice.
- Stay informed on advancements within the Floating Offshore Wind industry and wider technical landscape.
- Deputise for the Floating Offshore Wind Test Laboratory Manager as required.
- Represent ORE Catapult at external industry events and forums.
Requirements
Essential Experience & Skills
- Experience with mechanical systems and components in an offshore operational environment.
- Knowledge of product development processes, including quality and safety considerations in hands-on environments.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritise effectively.
- Strong customer-facing skills with the ability to build long-term relationships.
- Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (Chartered status preferred).
- High competency in analytical tools used to validate stress and fatigue in cabling, wire or synthetic rope.

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across internal and external teams.
- Experience working in fast-paced or emerging technology environments.
- Ability to contribute to continuous improvement of testing processes, equipment and methodologies.
