Job Description

Windlab is Australia's clean energy pioneer. For over 20 years, we have set new standards in the development and construction of clean energy infrastructure through an unwavering commitment to balance the needs of our stakeholders, community, Country, and the environment.

We're raising the bar on renewables through our commitment to the highest standards from day one, driven by a long-term view and a strong sense of integrity. Our in-house experts bring the agility and technical insight needed to innovate quickly and solve complex challenges. And through genuine partnerships, we work closely with communities to ensure our projects deliver meaningful and lasting benefits.

We recognise that we operate on the traditional lands of First Nations peoples who have a continued sacred connection to Country, and with that comes responsibility. We are committed to embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, stories, and knowledge in everything we do.

Our values reflect who we are, how we work, and what we stand for:

  • Be tenacious. Adapting and flexing helps us overcome challenges and navigate change. We are proactive and responsive, comfortable in complexity.
  • Raise the bar. Creating new standards beats being limited by existing ones. We are always learning, seeking out opportunities to improve, willing to get our hands (and boots) dirty.
  • Think differently. Innovative solutions are guided by science, cutting edge methods, and the highest levels of expertise. We create magic when we put our heads together and remain open to the possibilities.
  • Be ruthlessly responsible. We do the right thing because we want to, not because we have to. We listen, show compassion, keep our promises, and create lasting benefits for our people, community, environment, and Country. We are currently recruiting a community officer located in the Greater Townsville region.

Be part of the change

As a Community Officer you will be responsible for planning, developing and delivering community engagement and community benefit activities in support of Windlab's Gawara Baya Wind Energy Project. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Community, the role works closely with the community engagement team and the broader integrated project team to implement effective communication strategies and strong stakeholder relationships throughout all stages of the project.

You will lead key engagement activities, including council briefings, community information sessions, and sponsorship and donations programs. You will also develop and share clear, timely communications such as notifications, website updates, newsletters, flyers, and social media posts. The role monitors community sentiment identifies emerging risks and issues and recommends mitigation actions to support positive project outcomes.

Working closely with construction and project teams, the Community Officer supports on-site activities during early works and construction, manages community enquiries and complaints (including after-hours support), and ensures community engagement activities are well-coordinated, responsive and aligned with project milestones. The role requires regular travel to the Gawara Baya project site near Mt Fox, with occasional travel to other Windlab offices.

What sets you apart

You have experience in community engagement, customer service and/or communications within construction or infrastructure environments, ideally with exposure to remote project work and an understanding of rural and regional community contexts. You build strong, positive relationships with diverse stakeholders, including those with competing interests, and bring a practical, solution-focused approach supported by strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

Highly organised and detail-focused, you are action-oriented and able to manage multiple priorities, resolve conflict effectively, and see tasks through to completion. You communicate clearly and professionally, work well both independently and within geographically dispersed teams, maintain confidentiality, and proactively identify risks and opportunities.

You hold a tertiary qualification in communications or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience, along with a full Australian driver's licence.

Life at Windlab

Our culture is designed to help individuals and the collective organisation shape a better energy future where:

  • You can be challenged and inspired, in a dynamic, innovative environment working alongside the smartest minds in energy.
  • You have autonomy, encouraged to have a voice and make an impact.
  • There are no limits to your potential as you determine your ideal pathway, exposed to a broad range of jobs and supported to continuously learn.
  • Values-led, open, and transparent decision making means you know you can leave a positive legacy by doing things the right way.

Apply today

  • Applicants are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. Applications close on 18 May 2026; however, Windlab reserves the right to close the advertisement early should a suitable candidate be appointed.
  • By submitting your application, you agree to Windlab collecting, holding, using and disclosing your personal information in accordance with Windlab Privacy Statement.
  • Successful applicants must be eligible to work in Australia and agree to provide information for pre-employment checks if required for the position (which may include police record checks).

Windlab is proud to be recognised as a WORK180 Endorsed Employer and a 2026 Circle Back Initiative Employer - we commit to responding to every applicant.

At Windlab, we embrace the richness of our diverse workforce, and we encourage people of all genders, races, nationalities, orientations and of all abilities to join us.
