Job Description

The Manager, Interconnection & Transmission plays a central role in enabling Energy Vault's growth as an IPP across utility-scale battery energy storage (BESS), hybrid renewable, and large-load infrastructure projects. This position owns the full lifecycle of interconnection - from interconnection strategy through site diligence, application management, study review, and agreement execution - while working closely with internal teams across engineering, development, and commercial, as well as external stakeholders including utilities and ISO/RTOs.

The position plays a critical role in evaluating project viability, reducing development risk, optimizing transmission access, and ensuring projects are positioned for successful commercialization in increasingly capacity-constrained markets.

The ideal candidate combines deep technical understanding of transmission and interconnection processes with strong commercial judgment, strategic thinking, and execution capability.

Your Mission

Interconnection Strategy & Queue Management

  • Lead interconnection strategy and execution for utility-scale BESS, solar, hybrid, and large-load projects across North American power markets.
  • Manage the full interconnection lifecycle, including site screening, queue positioning, application submission, study review, milestone management, and commercial operation readiness.
  • Evaluate transmission availability, congestion exposure, curtailment risk, hosting capacity, and network upgrade requirements to support project siting and investment decisions.
  • Coordinate and manage utility and ISO/RTO interactions throughout feasibility, system impact, facilities, and deliverability study phases.

Study Review & Technical Oversight

  • Review and interpret power system studies including load flow, short-circuit, contingency, stability, and deliverability analyses.
  • Translate study results into actionable recommendations - including network upgrade costs, risk mitigation strategies, and schedule impacts - to support commercial and investment decisions.
  • Coordinate external consultants performing transmission modeling and interconnection studies while ensuring consistency, quality, and schedule alignment.
  • Monitor evolving ISO/RTO tariffs, FERC policies, cluster study reforms, transmission planning activities, and market rule changes impacting project economics or development timelines.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Leadership

  • Manage utility and ISO/RTO interconnection applications through the full lifecycle: submission, data validation, study coordination, milestone tracking, and agreement execution.
  • Support transmission and interconnection due diligence activities for acquisitions, partnerships, and strategic development opportunities.
  • Identify and communicate interconnection-related risks, schedule impacts, withdrawal exposure, and upgrade cost sensitivities to internal stakeholders and executive leadership.
  • Collaborate with engineering and delivery teams to ensure grid compliance and successful project execution through commissioning and energization.
  • Develop standardized tools, processes, and best practices for evaluating interconnection opportunities across multiple markets.

Your Background

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or related discipline (master's preferred).
  • 8+ years of experience in interconnection, transmission planning, grid integration.
  • Deep experience with ISO/RTO interconnection processes, with ERCOT strongly preferred; SPP, PJM, MISO, CAISO, or WECC experience highly valued.
  • Strong knowledge of large load and/or generation interconnection processes across utility and ISO/RTO jurisdictions.
  • Strong understanding of transmission systems, congestion analysis, network upgrades, and grid reliability considerations.
  • Experience managing utility and ISO/RTO interconnection applications and coordinating through feasibility, system impact, facilities, and deliverability studies.
  • Experience overseeing external consultants and technical service providers.
  • Experience using power system modeling tools (e.g., PSS??E, PowerWorld, PSCAD, or similar).
  • Strong communication skills - able to work cross-functionally and present technical outcomes to non-technical stakeholders and senior leadership.
  • Good understanding of electricity markets and products and use cases realized by Energy Storage systems, Hybrid systems.
  • Experience with hybrid data centers strongly preferred.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and/or internationally.
  • Comfortable thriving in fast-paced, rapid growth environments.
