Job Description
A significant proportion of SSE's future growth and investment strategy in Germany is shaped by the evolution of power market fundamentals and project economics. As SSE continues to expand into the German market, this role forms part of a new and growing team in a newly entered market, offering a unique opportunity to shape our presence from the outset.
As part of the Energy Economics team at SSE, you will play a key role in shaping SSE's market research and analysis in Germany.
You will contribute to the development of SSE's view of long-term power prices and asset revenues in the German power market. These forecasts and market outlooks will inform the commercial evaluation of potential investments and divestments, and support SSE's broader strategy in Germany. You will collaborate with advisers and industry bodies to build a deep understanding of the German power market and its future evolution. Given the evolving nature of this market and team, you will be comfortable operating with a high degree of autonomy and take a proactive, self-starting approach to building insight and driving analysis forward.
You will be recognised as a subject matter expert on the German power market, reporting to the Head of International Markets within SSE's Energy Economics department. You will be part of a wider international team of analysts and market specialists across the UK and Europe, working together to provide independent market insights and advice to support SSE's international growth.
Based in Hamburg, you will work closely with the growing SSE team in Germany, including partnering with the Head of Policy and Public Affairs on areas where policy and markets intersect. You will also share insights and perspectives with senior stakeholders, including the Managing Director Germany and wider leadership, to support informed decision-making on evolving market developments.
You will
- Lead and support the development of long-term power price forecasts and market assumptions for Germany, informing investment and strategic decisions.
- Provide clear and accessible market insight by analysing supply, demand, policy, and pricing trends across Germany and neighbouring European markets.
- Support project development and M&A activity through revenue modelling, commercial due diligence, and bid input.
- Translate complex market data into practical, well-balanced recommendations for stakeholders, highlighting risks, opportunities, and trade-offs.
- Build strong, collaborative relationships internally and externally to ensure insights remain relevant, timely, and impactful.
You have
- A strong understanding of the German energy market, including renewables, conventional generation, networks, and flexibility solutions.
- Experience in energy market analysis, with the ability to build and interpret economic and commercial models.
- The ability to communicate complex insights in a clear and engaging way to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Fluent German and English language skills, both written and spoken.
- A degree in a relevant subject (e.g. economics, engineering, mathematics), or equivalent experience, alongside curiosity and a willingness to explore new perspectives.
