Job Description
Aarhus University is seeking a skilled Lab Engineer to support research and teaching activities in the Department of Mechanical and Production Engineering. The position is a full-time permanent appointment from 1 October 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter.
In this role, you will provide technical support for research-based laboratory work and contribute to the operation, development, and maintenance of laboratory infrastructure across the department. The position involves collaboration with researchers, students, and technical staff in a broad range of experimental activities within mechanical and production engineering.
The successful candidate will contribute to the planning, operation, and development of experimental setups and laboratory facilities, including advanced measurement systems, instrumentation, and data acquisition solutions.
Furthermore, the candidate should complement a small team of laboratory engineers with software development skills.
Expected start date and duration of employment
The position is a full-time permanent appointment from 1 October 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter.
Job description
- Operation, maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment and experimental infrastructure.
- Support for the development, implementation, and commissioning of new experimental setups, instrumentation, and measurement systems for research and teaching activities, in collaboration with our prototype workshop.
- Assistance with laboratory testing, sensor integration and synchronization, data acquisition, technical documentation, and handling of experimental research data.
- Support for sensor-based measurement systems, including force, acceleration, pressure, temperature, and flow-related instrumentation where relevant and the necessary signal conditioning and data acquisition.
- Contribution to laboratory safety procedures, user support, and training of students and staff.
- Support for research projects and student theses and occasional lab exercises in relation to teaching efforts.
Your profile
- Applicants must hold an MSc degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline and have either a PhD degree or substantial documented research experience from advanced experimental or research-oriented laboratory environments.
- Relevant experience with laboratory infrastructure, instrumentation, and experimental methods is expected.
- Experience with software configuration and preferably some development competencies such as Arduino based measurement systems, NI LabView or others.
- Experience with measurement systems, sensor integration, calibration, signal conditioning and data acquisition, filtering, and analysis of experimental data is an advantage.
- Familiarity with force, acceleration, pressure-, temperature-, or flow-related measurements, or with advanced or non-contact measurement methods, will be considered a strength.
- The ideal candidate has strong written and oral communication skills in English and thrives in a collaborative academic environment in a mix of students, researchers and technical staff.
