Peak Energy is growing its renewable energy platform across APAC, and our Japan business is at an exciting stage of growth. We are looking for a Japanese-qualified, bilingual Lawyer to join our Japan branch and become one of the key legal partners supporting the business as it scales.

This is much more than a traditional in-house legal role. As part of a growing, entrepreneurial team, you will have the opportunity to work directly with Japan leadership and our regional General Counsel, while being involved in project development, land and permitting, investments, M&A, transactions and corporate matters.

You will have the chance to build, shape and influence-helping establish practical legal processes, supporting important business decisions and providing advice that directly enables new renewable energy opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

• Shape new opportunities: Support early-stage project screening and pre-bid due diligence, with a strong focus on land, permitting and regulatory matters.
• Work on the deals: Support and manage legal workstreams for asset acquisitions, share acquisitions and renewable energy project transactions.
• Protect and enable projects: Provide practical legal advice throughout project development and monitor key legal and regulatory matters.
• Partner with the business: Draft and negotiate NDAs, commercial agreements and transaction documents, working with internal teams, counterparties and external counsel.
• Support the Japan platform: Advise on corporate matters, approvals and company secretarial requirements.
• Think beyond Japan: Work with Peak Energy's Singapore HQ and regional teams on cross-border and strategic legal matters.

What Makes you a great Fit?

• Qualified lawyer in Japan; lawyers qualified in a common-law jurisdiction with strong knowledge of Japanese law may also be considered.
• Native-level Japanese and strong business English, including the ability to review, draft and explain legal documents in both languages.
• Experience in an in-house legal team, multinational environment, or domestic/international law firm serving foreign clients.
• Experience with corporate land transactions is highly desirable.
• Exposure to M&A, investments, infrastructure, renewable energy or project development is a strong advantage.
• Familiarity with investment structures such as Silent Partnership (Tokumei Kumiai) and Limited Partnership is desirable.
• Commercially minded, pragmatic and comfortable giving clear advice in a fast-moving environment.
