Dandelion Energy is transforming how homes are heated and cooled—starting from (below) the ground up. As the nation’s leading residential geothermal company, we design, install, and maintain all-in-one heating and cooling systems that are cleaner, quieter, and up to 4x more efficient than traditional HVAC, with a focus on large, scaled deployments to large homebuilders. We’re an ambitious (and growing) team on a mission to revolutionize home heating.
Backed by Google Ventures (GV) and other top tech investors, our end-to-end geothermal solution is breaking the status quo of residential heating and cooling technology, and we’re scaling rapidly to meet demand. Whether we’re serving national homebuilders or individual homeowners, our mission is the same: to make geothermal the default choice for heating and cooling in the U.S.
About the job
Dandelion Energy is seeking a Fleet Manager to oversee the operations, maintenance, and strategic management of more than 150 company-owned vehicles, heavy equipment, and related assets. Reporting to our VP of Drilling, this role plays a vital part in supporting our geothermal installation teams by ensuring our fleet runs safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively. You’ll collaborate with internal teams, external vendors, and leadership to drive continuous improvement across fleet operations — and help shape a more sustainable future along the way.
Responsibilities
- Oversee acquisition, maintenance, and disposal of vehicles, heavy equipment, and related assets
- Develop and implement fleet management policies, procedures, and strategies
- Partner with Finance to evaluate buy vs. lease decisions for construction vehicles
- Track and manage fleet inventory, maintenance schedules, and replacement planning
- Create and oversee maintenance programs in partnership with internal mechanics and external vendors
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local fleet-related regulations (e.g., DOT, IFTA, HUT)
- Coordinate with project managers to ensure proper allocation of equipment to meet operational needs
- Maintain vendor and service provider relationships to ensure cost-effective, reliable support
- Analyze fleet data to identify trends, reduce costs, and improve operational performance
- Promote a culture of safety, reliability, and ownership within the fleet and field teams
You will thrive in this role if you have
- Strong collaboration skills and a willingness to work cross-functionally
- A proactive mindset and the ability to problem-solve independently
- Comfort working in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities
- A passion for building scalable systems and supporting field teams
- An interest in sustainability, clean energy, or mission-driven work
Must-haves
- 7+ years of experience managing a fleet of vehicles and/or heavy equipment
- Strong knowledge of fleet operations, safety regulations, and vendor management
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Willingness and ability to work in our Peekskill, NY office at least 3 days per week (unless traveling)
- Willingness to travel to project sites as needed to understand operational needs
Bonus points for
- Experience in field service or construction fleet operations
- Familiarity with fleet management software and tracking systems
- Prior experience in clean tech, geothermal, or residential HVAC industries
- Previous experience at a startup or rapidly growing company
Compensation
The expected base salary for this exempt role in New York is $105,000-$130,000. Actual compensation may vary based on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also has an equity component as part of the overall compensation package.
