Job Description
As a certified B Corporation, our business is our mission. 3Degrees is passionate about helping organizations rise to the challenge of taking urgent action on climate change. We are seeking a North American Agriculture Supply Chain Commercial Lead to drive strategy and business development across the agricultural sector, specifically focusing on food and beverage, dairy, and related industries.
This is a full-time, exempt role reporting to the Senior Director, Agriculture & Carbon Markets. We value camaraderie, team collaboration, and the benefits of in-person connection, while offering flexibility. For this role, we prefer candidates to join us in a voluntary, flexible hybrid work style in our San Francisco Bay Area or New York City office. We may also consider candidates who are able to join us at our office hub in Portland, ME.
For exceptional remote candidates, we strongly prefer those located in states where we are currently eligible to hire: CA, OR, NY, WA, ME, TX, CO, MI, FL, MA, MN, VA, DC, GA, UT, and IL. While we prioritize candidates in, or open to relocating to, these states, we may consider outstanding remote candidates from other US states. Please note that hiring in a new state would involve evaluating the implications of establishing a new hiring presence there. Additionally, 3Degrees does not provide relocation assistance for this position.
Please Note: 3Degrees does not provide sponsorship or work authorization assistance; therefore, pre-existing right-to-work status is a prerequisite to be considered for this position.
What You'll Do
This role is a high-level enterprise position that balances technical expertise with strategic sales. Operating as a "technical co-seller" and a thought partner to leadership, you will bridge the gap between complex agricultural science and senior executive climate goals. You will be the "Voice of the Customer," ensuring our agricultural decarbonization product roadmap-from livestock feed additives to row crop interventions-aligns perfectly with market demand.
- Co-develop commercial sales strategies alongside Account Executive for companies with North American agricultural supply chains, targeting downstream food and beverage brands and retailers
- Act as the technical product expert in sales calls, often handling 75-90% of the technical narrative to build deep trust with a customer's senior-most climate experts
- Create account-specific plans and expand ongoing client relationships in coordination with Account Executives to close multi-year strategic partnerships
- Use "Voice of Customer" data to guide agricultural product strategy, informing product packaging and pricing, as well as origination strategy including geography, technology, and MRV (Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification) requirements. Support the management of the North American project portfolio, managing the balance between project supply, customer demand, and risk/reward profiles
- Articulate and reframe 3Degrees' products into bespoke technical proposals that align with a customer's specific "theory of change" for agricultural reductions
- Represent 3Degrees at industry events, attending 2-5 major conferences per year to position the company as a trusted agricultural decarbonization partner
- Collaborate cross-functionally with marketing to develop sales training and product materials that ensure positioning remains in line with customer needs
About You
We are looking for a self-motivated professional who can solve complex deal approaches with a business owner's mindset. We typically find candidates achieve success in this role when they bring the following:
Required
- 6-8 years of professional experience in enterprise-level sales, business development, or project development within the agriculture, food, or climate sectors
- Proven track record navigating multi-year sales cycles and closing complex, six-figure+ deals
- Technical literacy in agriculture: Experience working in agricultural supply chains
- Technical literacy in carbon markets: Ability to speak confidently about carbon markets, MRV requirements, and leading standards bodies like the GHG Protocol
- Strong communication skills with the ability to build trust at the executive level and deliver technical presentations to sophisticated buyers
- Strategic mindset: Experience in product marketing or sales enablement to help refine go-to-market plans
Preferred
- Livestock agriculture experience is a significant plus
- Previous experience at an AgTech company, agriculture project developer, or major food brand (e.g., Nestlé, PepsiCo)
How We Define Success
Within 30 days,
- Develop a solid understanding of 3Degrees' Ag products, specific technologies, and interventions
- Gain a thorough understanding of the existing North American sales pipeline and target account list
- Complete a comprehensive review and "deep-dive" into the technical proposals for the initial set of enterprise accounts to identify immediate opportunities for technical refinement
Within 90 days,
- Establish yourself as a technical "thought partner" to Account Executives, joining new and existing customer sales calls
- Take over primary commercial responsibility for a handpicked list of enterprise accounts handed over by leadership
- Transition into the lead "technical co-seller" role on at least 3 active enterprise sales cycles, assuming responsibility for 75-90% of the technical dialogue during customer presentations
Within 6 months,
- Secure new business deals and begin building a robust pipeline of future contracts
- Consistently provide market feedback to internal teams to refine the Ag SCR product roadmap
- Identify and draft a "Voice of Customer" strategic brief detailing a refined product roadmap that aligns with current buyer demand
Within 1 year,
- Support Account Executives in exceeding annual sales targets, specifically achieving a collective $2.5M in contracted gross margin from assigned enterprise accounts
- Successfully leverage "Voice of Customer" data to shape and launch new agricultural Scope 3 emission reduction offerings, ensuring technical specifications (such as technology type or MRV requirements) align with high-level buyer needs
