Job Description
GRID Alternatives’ SolarCorps Fellowship Program is an opportunity for highly motivated and enthusiastic people to join GRID Alternatives for an 11-month paid service term. In this position, you’ll gain valuable experience in the renewable energy and non-profit industries while making significant contributions to communities most impacted by environmental and economic injustice!
The SolarCorps Fellowship Program is part of the AmeriCorps network of programs. SolarCorps is made possible with funding support from AmeriCorps and JPB Foundation.
The Opportunity
The SolarCorps Residential Design & Project Coordination Fellow will learn what it takes to put a solar system on a residential solar project from start to end. The fellow will also serve directly on GRID's low-income solar installation projects, helping complete all aspects of installation including system design, permitting, installation of solar panel systems, approval, and utility interconnection. This position will prepare you to be an entry-level PV designer, project coordinator, or permit runner in solar or related industries.
- Learn to evaluate solar potential, construct-ability, utility bill analysis, financial analysis, policy and solar design for affordable residential buildings
- Develop solar-related educational materials for affordable housing owners
- Assist in processing solar incentive paperwork and managing application processes
- Help with scheduling and preparing for site visits, inspections, and service calls
- Help organize and maintain project information in Salesforce
- Participate in solar PV installation, service calls, permit running, and site visits
- Stage and load equipment before and after installation projects
- Assist staff with preliminary designs and permit packs
- Help organize and maintain project information in Salesforce
What you need to bring to this role
- Must be 18 years or older
- 11-month commitment and complete 1700 hours of service
- To be eligible for AmeriCorps, applicants must be a U.S. citizen, national, or legal permanent resident alien of the United States.
- Ultra-organized with demonstrated success juggling multiple demands
- Clean, valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Good communication skills (written and verbal)
- High computer literacy
- Ability to learn and retain new concepts and technology quickly
- Comfort working as part of a team in a hard-working informal, high growth organization
- Must be self-motivated and self-directed
- Passion for renewable energy, sustainability, the environment, or environmental justice
- Interest and enthusiasm for renewable energy, community development, helping families and communities in need
Let's Talk Money
- $37,400 stipend for 11 months (Mon, Sept 16, 2024 - Friday August 15, 2025)
- Segal Americorps Education Award of $10,000 upon successful completion of fellowship
- Professional development opportunities and funds (based on approval of supervisors)
