Do you want to be our next Process Engineer Trainee in our team?
As a process engineer trainee, your key goals are to support silicon wafer processing in the microelectronics cleanroom in Otaniemi. In this position, you will have an essential role in assisting Process engineers in process development and problem-solving in the cleanroom manufacturing environment. Your task is also to help sustain the process over the holiday season in collaboration with the maintenance group.
Our Process Engineering operates in a cleanroom fully equipped for the fabrication of silicon and glass-based microsystems and devices. Process Engineer team supports and develops processes for innovative pilot production and R&D.
What would your responsibilities include?
- Using characterization tools, such as reflectometer, microscope, SEM, etc.
- Carrying out tests and monitor runs using processing equipment
- Following up on the test results and the statistical control limits
- In the trainee position there is possibility to continue for a masters thesis e.g. in PVD thin-film deposition and characterisation (SEM, AFM, XRD).
Who we are looking for?
- You have a background in physics, chemistry, materials science or electrical engineering and studies and/or some experience in microfabrication processes
- Ability to work in the cleanroom laboratory environment
- Ability to take initiative, responsibility, ability to combine theory with practice in a solution-oriented manner
- Good interaction and cooperation skills and fluent English

- Are interested in Microfabrication and enthusiastic about Silicon-based devices.
- Have an analytical mindset and are attentive to details, result-driven, not shy to propose ideas for improvement; want to see research results turn into commercial solutions.
- Have good collaboration skills, a professional attitude, and are also able to work independently.
- Have the willingness to learn new things while applying in practice the acquired knowledge from your studies.

All VTT Summer of Changemakers traineeships are paid, and the salary is determined based on study credits: for Master's students the monthly salary is between 2600€ and 2800€, and for Bachelor's students the monthly salary is between 2100€ and 2400€. The typical duration of traineeships is between 3 and 6 months, with start dates usually falling between March and June, however the length and the exact starting date can be discussed with the hiring team.
