Job Description
Factorial develops breakthrough solid-state battery technology to enable safe, scalable, and high-performance cells for electric vehicles. Our portfolio of solid-state innovations includes the segment-leading FEST® (Factorial Electrolyte System Technology), which has been scaled in 100+Ah cells, works at room temperature, and is compatible with existing lithium-ion battery manufacturing equipment. With strong OEM backing, including joint development agreements with Mercedes-Benz, Stellantis, and Hyundai Motor Company, a world-class team of scientists, engineers, and business professionals, and cutting-edge R&D facilities, Factorial is pushing the boundaries of battery technology.
The Opportunity
Factorial Energy is seeking a Controller to join our team in our Billerica location. This person will be responsible for managing all accounting activities, financial reporting, and ensuring compliance with applicable accounting and tax regulations. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated progressive accounting leadership and a desire to lead the accounting organization in a dynamic growth-stage company. The role requires a hands-on approach, with a willingness to “roll up sleeves” to perform various tasks as needed.
In this role, you will
- Lead and own all accounting operations, including managing the general ledger, inventory, fixed assets, leases, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, equity accounting, and intercompany consolidation.
- Oversee the month-end closing process, including account reconciliation, and quarterly/annual financial statement preparation in accordance with US GAAP.
- Establish and maintain effective internal controls over financial reporting and monitor and evaluate their performance and effectiveness.
- Coordinate the annual financial statement audit and tax filings compliance with external service providers.
- Conduct analysis of costs and expenses to identify areas for cost reduction and efficiency improvements. Collaborate with cross functional team to ensure timely execution of cost reduction targets.
- Mentor, develop, and retain a high-performing accounting team and support their growth and professional development, fostering a culture of excellence, integrity, and accountability.
- Partner with the FP&A function on the annual budget, monthly forecast, various expense analytics and other internal reporting activities.
- Work on special projects, system implementations/optimizations, and process improvements to enhance operational efficiency.
We are looking for people who
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA certification required.
- Proven experience (8-10+ years) in accounting roles and demonstrated accounting leadership, including in a Manufacturing setting.
- Robust knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP) and financial regulations.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work in a cross-functional team environment.
- Exhibit an energetic and positive attitude with a focus on problem solving.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs: Word, PowerPoint and Outlook. Advanced proficiency in Excel.
- NetSuite experience is a plus.
- Prior audit/public accounting experience is strongly preferred.
