A UK leading multi-award-winning building services contractor are currently seeking a Building Services Design Engineer in supporting their expanding pre-construction team at their fabulous new Head Office in Banbridge, as a fundamental role in providing building services design across multiple large scale projects throughout the UK, Ireland and Europe, including high rise residential, commercial, educational, airports, data centres and renewable energy projects.

Alternative Heat is a specialist MEP contractor that carries out design and installation of low carbon technologies and decarbonisation retrofit works, as well as offsite mechanical & electrical prefabricated products with a reputation for construction quality and delivery of projects to the highest standard, where building services design is a critical element in ensuring project delivery success.
Key Responsibilities
This role will be essential in preparing detailed building services design solutions for new build installation and existing build retrofitting of low carbon technologies including Air Source Heat Pumps, Water Source Heat Pumps, Ground Source Heat Pumps, Biomass, Solar PV, mechanical heat recovery and boiler systems to meet project requirements. This will include the following.
- Building Thermal & Electrical Load Analysis
- Pre-Site Visit Desktop Feasibility Assessments
- Site survey assessments of existing buildings services and provide conditional reports.
- System Load Calculations to enable primary and secondary plant selections.
- Calculations of energy, carbon and lifecycle cost savings for pre and post project delivery stages
- Mechanical system design, calculations, and schematic drawings
- Electrical LV and BMS controls design, calculations and schematic drawings
- Prepare project specific mechanical, electrical, and controls specifications.
- Prepare mechanical, electrical, controls and commissioning strategies.
- Analyse and select all project MEP plant with technical and commercial awareness.
- Prepare technical submittals to be issued for client approval.
- Ensuring design compliance with relevant building codes, regulations, and industry standards
- Collaboration with clients, suppliers, sub-contractors, and other relevant authorities as necessary
- Participate in project team meetings.
- Maintain updated on industry advancements in building services technology, codes, and regulations.
- Any other duties deemed necessary by Management.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Essential Criteria:
- Third level Education in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or similar
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in similar role
- Excellent time management and communication skills
- Experience and understanding of multi-disciplinary design processes and design coordination.
- Proficient in Microsoft office Packages – Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project and Microsoft teams
Desired Criteria:
- Experience in using AutoCAD and/or Navisworks software.
- Experience in using SBEM or thermal modelling software.
