Job Description
The Instructional Designer is responsible for designing and developing instructional materials and ensuring the delivery of high-quality learning experiences. The Instructional designer is highly skilled in curriculum development and instructional strategies and performs a variety of instructional design functions related to the planning, development, and delivery of training modules and full training courses/curriculum. The Instructional Designer draws from the adult learning theory knowledge base, best practices, technology and tools to design interactive learning content. Manages multiple projects to design and build online, virtual and in person courses. The Instructional Designer collaborates with Subject Matter Experts to determine specific learning needs, define learning objectives and gather critical content. This role contributes to the success of learners by fostering their growth and development through well-designed and impactful instructional programs. This position offers an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact on the learning journey of individuals.
Essential Job Functions
- Designs, develops and updates curriculum, courses, instructional materials, and other instructional information consistent with adult learning theory for delivery in online learning, Instructor Led, hybrid courses, and face-to-face courses. Confirms course objectives are current and reflected in newly developed courses.
- Creates interactive and engaging learning experiences, curriculum and course content as well as learning activities, assignments, and assessments that enhances retention and transfer.
- Develops instructors and facilitation manuals; coaches trainers on how to effectively deploy the learning exercises, activities and effectively facilitate the training program and designs.
- Keeps current on best practices in instructional design.
- Assists subject matter experts in defining course outcomes and objectives. Designs and develops engaging, interactive, and instructionally sound materials that address various learning styles.
- Designs and produces learning materials in a variety of formats, including print, graphics, audio, video, demonstration instructions, animation, and multimedia, to support learning objectives.
- Collaborates with subject matter experts, team members, etc. to solve technological and other challenges.
- Ensures any courses developed are compatible with the Learning Management System
- Leverages all existing tools and resources to maximize effectiveness and quality of courses along with ensuring efficient development.
- Stays current and learns new technologies and applications to assist course design.
- Completes professional development to keep current with rapid changes in technology and higher education.
- Ensures all training programs have clear training objectives and learning and behavior change can be adequately assessed.
- Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor.

Education/Experience
- BS, MS, or higher degree in instructional design, education, or related field preferred
- 5-7 years experience in an Instructional Design role required.
- 3-5 years experience doing Instructional Design in a Residential Solar Company preferred.
- 3+ years experience developing Safety training preferred.
- 2-3 years experience leading or working as a part of an Instructional Design Team preferred
- Proven working experience in instructional design, Knowledge of adult learning theory and models, and assessments
- Excellent project management and organizational skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to effectively convey technical information to non-technical colleagues and clients
- Critical thinking skills
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple simultaneous deadlines
- Demonstrated ability to utilize elearning platforms such as Captivate and Articulate along with experience in Canva
Physical Demands
The physical requirements outlined are essential for performing the core duties of this role.
- Regular responsibilities include speaking, listening, standing, walking, using hands for handling or feeling, and reaching with arms.
- Occasionally, the employee may need to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Lifting and moving objects up to 10 pounds frequently and up to 25 pounds occasionally is required. Vision requirements include close, distance, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment
