STX’s Traineeship is a one-year rotational program where you get to work in four different teams. You will start on one of our operation teams, and then rotate through three front office teams. This gives you the unique opportunity to experience all the different elements of working in environmental commodity trading. Designed to accelerate your career at STX, it is tailored to support your professional and personal growth.

Examples of projects you could be doing as a Trainee:

• Analytical projects: analyzing current and future supply and demand, mapping the landscape of buyers and sellers through analyzing very extensive data sets, map out the logistics and production requirements, perform cost and revenue analysis
• Commercial projects: pitch preparation, outreach to clients through cold calling, having introduction meetings with clients, visiting corporates, closing a deal
• Business development projects: conducting research into new products and markets that STX could potentially be trading in

Are you our future Amsterdam Trainee? You…

• Are analytical: ability to take information from large data sets and covert this into clear insights (through excel, python or other programing tool)
• And at the same time commercial: Ability to identify (sales) opportunities. Driven by making profit and hiting targets
• Graduated with your Master before September 2025 in the field of Finance, Financial Economics, Econometrics, Qualitative Finance, or a related study field / dual master degree
• Have 0-1 year working experience in a full-time job.
• Get energy from a fast paced (learning) environment, where your entrepreneurial mindset is combined with high collaboration skills.

Are you our future NYC Trainee? Requirements:

• Current Undergraduate or Masters’ students with a graduation date in Spring/Summer 2026
• Preferably pursing a degree in Finance, Technology, Business, Environmental Sciences or related field
• Affinity and/or strong interest in the Environmental Commodities markets
• Ability to analyze and synthesize data, reports, and other information in a presentable and visual way
• Self-starter with an entrepreneurial mindset and ability to think critically
• Intellectually curious with written and verbal communication skills​ Must have experience with Excel or Python; SQL and VBA are a plus

What does the process of becoming an STX Trainee in NYC look like?

• Resume screening and selection: we will carefully evaluate your relevant skills and experience to see if there is alignment with the role
• Recruiter Screen: we will deep dive into your personal and professional experiences to see if there is a match
• Interview Round 1: you will meet with multiple stakeholders from the business and learn more about the responsibilities of a Trainee
• Case Study: you’ll receive a case study that you will present to our management team

Carlotta

Before joining STX, I studied Management of Technology at Delft University of Technology. What I like about the traineeship is that I get the opportunity to see STX’s activities from different angles, and from that I really get a complete understanding of the whole trade life cycle. Moreover, experiencing different activities and covering different roles is really helping me to discover and uncover my potentials, my passions, and my objectives for the future. As someone new to working, getting the opportunity to sort of taste test potential careers is so helpful. This traineeship really gives me the opportunity to develop helpful business-specific knowledge and skills from scratch – and at such a fast pace that I always feel engaged with what I am doing and busy with purpose!

I studied Financial Economics at Erasmus University in Rotterdam. What I find most appealing about the Traineeship is its unique opportunity to rotate through five diverse roles within only 1.5 years. This immersive experience gives you a good understanding of the entire company and all the different roles within STX. Enabling yourself to make a well-informed decision about preferred role at STX once the traineeship concludes.

Before joining STX, I studied Quantitative Finance at the University of Amsterdam in Amsterdam. What I like about the Traineeship is the steep learning curve, being surrounded by smart and ambitious people with different profiles from all over the world and being active in new developing markets in the world of renewable energy with a lot of growth potential in the future.
