Context

The Expertise Center Global Market Analysis (GMA) and the Transversal Business Battery Energy Storage Systems are looking for an experienced power market analyst. GEMS is providing hedging solutions for renewable, flex assets and downstream customers. Our objective is “to accelerate the energy transition through market solutions”. Engie has strong ambitions in the development of renewable and flex assets in Europe and outside Europe.

The market analyst will be part of an extended team of market analysts, hydrologists, meteorologists and data scientists who sit on the trading floor. He/She will report to the leader of the power & emissions analysis team.

Role

The Power Market Analyst will focus on European power markets including day ahead, ancillary, intraday and imbalance. He/she will contribute to increase market knowledge/awareness within GEMS but also with Global Business Units stakeholders within Engie.

The business focus will be flexible assets (batteries, pump storages, etc).

The analyst will contribute to the valuation of different investment/origination files linked to flexible assets in collaboration with various teams within Engie. He/she will coordinate the long term valuation methodology through different countries, checking coherence of assumptions with a focus on Europe, but also with ability to contribute to American, and Australian valuations.

This position will also support the geographical expansion of GEMS in countries where market analysis skills need to be developed. He/she will share best practices and existing tools with all countries where GEMS is active.

He/she will be in close contact with the regulation teams in charge of defining and defending GEMS/Engie positions for future market design and regulation.

  • Develop and validate asset valuation methodology for flex assets
  • Contribute to valuation of flex assets together with Finance & AIFA, Engie Impact and Engie Strategy and the different Engie Bus
  • Contribute to internal forecast models with the power analyst team
  • Work closely, daily, with traders, portfolio managers and quants
  • Collect data, monitor quality together with GEMS IS and contribute to GEMS data transformation
  • Develop and maintain analysis tools and dashboards
  • Advice GEMS, Engie entities and top management about market evolution and the impact on asset valuation and risk management
  • Promote team spirit and truly collaborative, no ego.

Hard skills

  • Min 3 years experience in power market analysis
  • In depth knowledge of energy markets
  • Strong analytical skills, programming skills (Python and/or R), ability to build models and apply data science & machine learning to operational topics
  • Experience in trading environment: Ability to work with traders, to translate market analyses into propositions/Strategies and to communicate them clearly

Soft skills

  • Clear and effective communication both written and verbal; ability to explain and convey messages about complex issues and models; ability to work in multi-cultural environment.
  • Reactivity, creativity, initiative, autonomy, ability to cope with tight deadlines, team spirit.

Education and professional background

  • Master degree or PhD in relevant area (engineering, mathematics, physics, etc)

Languages

  • Fluent in English
