Job Description

EcoCeres, a pioneering leader in transforming waste carbon into renewable solutions, is seeking a dynamic and visionary Commercial Strategy & Business Development talent to drive our global commercial initiatives. Reporting directly to the Chief Commercial Officer, this role is instrumental in shaping and executing our commercial strategy, with a focus on renewable fuels production, including Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO), Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), and cellulosic ethanol. The successful candidate will bring a wealth of European and US experience, possess deep knowledge of agricultural waste markets, understand the complexities of Waste & Residue fats, oils, and greases, and have a proven track record in forming partnerships with multiple parties. Strong analytical skills, strategic thinking, and the ability to navigate the petroleum industry landscape are highly advantageous for this role. In addition to these requirements, the role also involves extensive experience working with external consultants and the ability to work effectively across different timezones and cultures within a matrix organization.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Commercial Strategy Development

    • Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and execute comprehensive commercial strategies that align with EcoCeres' growth plans and objectives.
    • Lead the assessment of market opportunities and industry trends, identifying areas for potential business expansion.
  2. Business Development

    • Drive business development initiatives, with a particular focus on renewable fuels production, including HVO, SAF, and cellulosic ethanol.
    • Identify and evaluate new opportunities for partnerships, investments, and acquisitions to support EcoCeres' commercial objectives.
  3. European and US Markets Focus

    • Leverage extensive European and US experience to identify, assess, and pursue commercial opportunities, ensuring alignment with regional dynamics and regulations.
  4. Agricultural Waste Markets Knowledge

    • Utilize deep knowledge of agricultural waste markets to identify feedstock sources, assess supply chains, and develop strategies for feedstock procurement and utilization.
  5. Understanding of Waste & Residue Fats, Oils, and Greases

    • Have a nuanced understanding of the limitations and opportunities presented by Waste & Residue fats, oils, and greases, including their market dynamics and sustainability considerations.
  6. Partnership Development

    • Cultivate and manage relationships with industry stakeholders, potential partners, and governmental agencies, facilitating collaboration and partnership agreements.
    • Drive negotiations and contractual agreements to establish mutually beneficial partnerships.
  7. Analytical and Strategic Thinking

    • Employ strong analytical skills to evaluate the financial viability of commercial opportunities, assessing risks and developing mitigation strategies.
    • Demonstrate strategic thinking by identifying market niches and innovative approaches to business development.
  8. Petroleum Industry Understanding

    • Leverage an understanding of the petroleum industry to identify opportunities for collaboration, technology transfer, or coexistence in the renewable solutions space.
  9. External Consultant Engagement

    • Collaborate effectively with external consultants, leveraging their expertise to inform and enhance commercial strategies and initiatives.
  10. Multicultural and Matrix Organization Skills

    • Work seamlessly across timezones and cultures within a matrix-type organization, fostering effective collaboration and communication.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Proven track record in commercial strategy development and business development roles, with a focus on renewable fuels production.
  • Extensive European and US market experience, with a deep understanding of regional dynamics, regulations, and market trends.
  • Knowledge of agricultural waste markets and feedstock sourcing strategies.
  • Demonstrated success in forming partnerships with multiple parties, including industry stakeholders, governmental agencies, and potential collaborators.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to assess commercial opportunities, financial viability, and risks.
  • Strategic thinking, with a history of identifying innovative approaches to business development.
  • Understanding of the petroleum industry is a plus, with the ability to identify areas of synergy with renewable solutions.
  • Extensive experience working with external consultants.
  • Flexibility to adapt to a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
