Position Summary

Canadian Solar e-STORAGE is now seeking a Senior Global Environmental Health and Safety Manager who will be responsible for championing environmental protection programs and ensuring occupational safety and health in our workplace setting. Your role will include evaluating safety practices, conducting site inspections, leading training programs, and managing our waste management program. You will be a key contributor to our commitment to sustainability and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Promote a positive health and safety culture, ensuring compliance with safety legislation and adherence to safety policies and practices.
  • Lead the development and execution of global safety training programs for employees, emphasizing best practices and regulatory compliance.
  • Evaluate and approve office area layout to ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Partner with Operations and employees to minimize operational losses, occupational health problems, accidents, or injuries.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to verify proper implementation of policies and procedures.
  • Lead in-house training sessions with managers and employees on health and safety issues and risks.
  • Stay updated on new legislation and maintain a working knowledge of all Health and Safety Executive (HSE) legislation affecting the renewable energy industry.
  • Manage the company's Waste Management Program, ensuring the safe disposal of hazardous substances.
  • Provide recommendations on specialist areas such as fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, safeguarding machinery, and occupational diseases.
  • Oversee incident response procedures globally, ensuring timely and thorough investigations, and implementing corrective measures.
  • Establish and test emergency preparedness and response procedures globally, ensuring the organization's resilience in crisis situations.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, government agencies, and relevant bodies to promote a positive safety culture and stay aligned with industry trends.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of safety metrics, incidents, and compliance status to senior management and relevant authorities.
  • Conduct assessments to gauge the environmental impact of operations globally and recommend sustainable practices.
  • Strengthen business resiliency by developing and implementing robust business continuity plans.
  • Ensure compliance with Environment, Health, and Safety, and Manufacturing Quality standards, rules, and regulations.
  • Implement continuous improvement on practices and procedures.
  • Implement actions and programs to prevent/reduce the occurrence of emergencies/accidents/incidents.
  • Institute an EHS Training system and personnel awareness activities.
  • Available for spontaneous travel, including weekends and overnight stays, as required by business needs. Maintain flexibility in work hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the management.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in safety or related field.
  • At least 10 years of relevant work experience in environment, health, and safety, preferably in the renewable energy industry with a minimum of 5-7 years of managerial experience.
  • Computer literate, excellent skills as a trainer regarding EH&S, leadership skills, effective writing, and communication skills.
  • Knowledgeable in emergency procedures, related accidents, and mitigation.
  • Strong knowledge of protecting the environment, pollution control regulations and waste minimization.
  • Knowledge and expertise in occupational safety, fire protection, prevention and control, work hazard evaluation, and industrial hygiene.
