About the role

DNV's Energy Markets and Strategy (EMS) team provides economic, strategic, regulatory, and policy advisory services related to energy markets, energy infrastructures, energy technologies, and business models.

To further grow our services in Germany, DNV's EMS team in Germany is seeking a senior consultant energy markets and strategy with a focus on the DACH countries.

This role puts you at the forefront of the global energy transition. You will take a leading role on innovative, early-phase projects, delivering industry-defining results to our customers. You will lead consulting projects and guide your project team and less experienced colleagues. You are an expert on the economic and commercial aspects of the German energy market and the assessment and valuation of energy assets, investments and business models. You will develop and expand our services in the DACH countries, and enhance our reputation for quality, innovation, and integrity. You will perform with a high degree of individual responsibility in a role you can actively shape.

Your tasks in this role will include the following:

  • Providing strategic and analytical economic and commercial advice for our clients in the DACH countries on (future) energy systems, power and gas markets, emerging energy technologies, energy infrastructures, and business models.
  • Leading consulting projects for clients, from proposal preparation to project delivery.
  • Being an expert point of contact for our customers in the DACH countries on competitive energy markets and the economics of renewable energies, as well as the assessment and valuation of energy assets, investments and business models.
  • Guiding project team members and less experienced colleagues.
  • Driving the continuous development and expansion of our services, including identifying market opportunities, acquiring new projects and writing winning proposals.

The EMS team

The team located in Bonn (Germany) is providing economic and commercial advice on the energy sector to clients in the DACH countries and internationally. We focus on the energy transition and the impact of the switch to renewable energy resources. Rapid changes create uncertainty and risk from a market perspective, and we take an active role in helping our clients manage that risk through in-depth knowledge of power, gas and the broader energy markets.

Our portfolio of services includes policy and market analysis, economic regulation and energy market design, market and system integration of renewable energies, economic and financial assessment of investments, assets and business models, commercial and regulatory due diligence, market modelling and power price forecasting. Our clients are leading utilities, network operators, project developers, industrials, financial institutions, and various energy and climate focused government entities.

About you

You should have the following:

  • Several years of experience on economic and commercial aspects of energy markets.
  • Deep understanding on the functioning of energy markets and comprehensive practical knowledge on energy sector business models in the DACH countries.
  • Proven economic and commercial knowledge in some of the following areas:
    • Wholesale power markets and trading
    • System services, balancing markets and demand side flexibility, including energy storage
    • Renewable energy generation and Power Purchase Agreements
    • Renewable gases and sustainable fuels
  • Interest and proven ability in leading projects, organizing project work, and guiding your project team and less experienced colleagues.
  • Interest and ability to present and sell our services and develop them further.
  • Fluent or native German speaker with excellent English language skills (written and spoken).
  • Self-motivated, proactive, result and solution-oriented mindset, high sense of responsibility and personal integrity.
