The Business Development Manager is responsible for identifying new project opportunities and for the development of wind/solar powered generation and storage projects, from the project identification stage through financial closing and start of construction. The role involves approaching landholders (typically farmers or business owners) to secure project land and serving as the liaison between the company and landholders to maintain harmonious client relations. This position can be located anywhere in central NSW or QLD or in the Canberra HQ or the Sydney office. The position requires regular travel to regional and rural areas

Responsibilities

  • Support the identification of prospective project sites with suitable portfolios for distributed generation solar, wind and energy storage projects.
  • Undertake desktop-based preliminary due diligence on potential sites.
  • Develop project budgets and support the financial analysis and modelling of the project.
  • Negotiate option and lease agreements and obtain land rights to design, permit, construct, operate, and maintain wind, solar and battery storage projects.
  • Establish and manage relationships with stakeholders, including landholders, elected officials, regulators, utilities, and community leaders, to support project development, and serve as the liaison between EDPR and stakeholders through deal closing.
  • Work alongside other internal EDP Renewables departments (including planning, legal, engineering, and construction, etc.) to support proposal and development activities.
  • Produce correspondence and material for project websites, information booklets and other promotional material as may be necessary.
  • Perform quality assurance checks and additional diligence to ensure a high degree of quality and confidence in business opportunities and the accuracy of external facing materials.
  • Conduct and manage all work in a timely fashion to ensure that critical deadlines are met.
  • Be proactive in finding more efficient ways to run the project development functions.
  • Additional duties as required.

Requirements

  • Experience in the energy industry or familiarity with wind and solar power project development is preferred, but not essential.
  • Three (3) or more years of experience in sales, project development, agricultural/farm supply agency or similar client-facing, sales-driven role.
  • Proven ability to:
    • effectively sell into consumer or industry markets, including substantial success in achieving strong sales results through direct selling of products and projects; or
    • work autonomously towards achieving high standards of sales performance involving consistent achievement or exceeding of targets and objectives and high rates of return from sales activities.
  • Strong communication, negotiation and relationship skills that will build trust and represent company interests.
  • Ability to be self-motivated and work effectively with minimal direction in both structured and unstructured work environments, often from remote locations.
  • Ability and willingness to travel and work overtime as needed.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Eligibility to work in Australia.
