A UK leading multi-award winning building services contractor are currently seeking an CAD Technician in supporting their expanding BIM team at their fabulous new Head Office in Banbridge. As a CAD Technician, you will undergo comprehensive training to develop the skills and knowledge necessary for a successful career as a CAD Technician. Under the guidance of experienced professionals, you will learn how to use a range of computer-aided design software, create technical drawings, and contribute to various design projects. This position is ideal for individuals who have a strong interest in engineering and design and are eager to develop their skills under the guidance of a strong, multi disciplined CAD Team. Alternative Heat is a specialist building services contractor that carries out design, manufacture and installation of new build and retrofit decarbonisation and renewable energy projects as well as modular mechanical & electrical prefabricated products, with a reputation for construction quality and delivery of projects to the highest standard. The CAD Team play a key role in developing drawings from 3D CAD models ensuring that all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP), architectural and structural elements are accurately represented and meet the project's specifications and standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drawing Development: Extract and prepare 2D drawings from 3D models for construction documentation, including plans, sections, elevations, and details.
  • Annotation Management: Populate 3D models with essential annotation data and specifications, ensuring that all components are correctly tagged and categorised.
  • Quality Control: Check models & drawings for accuracy and adherence to company standards.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with CAD, design, pre-construction, offsite manufacturing, onsite Installation teams, to ensure that the 3D modelling and 2D drawings aligns with project requirements.
  • Development: Shadow experienced technicians to gain hands-on experience on our design processes where a development plan will be arranged to learn and develop into utilising Revit 3D modelling software.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Skills and Competencies

  • CAD Proficiency: Ability to work with CAD software developing 2D drawings and 3D modelling with experience in such packages or similar - AutoCAD, Sketchup, Solidworks, Revit, ArchiCAD, Rhino
  • 2D & 3D Modelling: Ability to develop detailed 2D drawings and 3D models from provided project information, sketches or verbal instructions.
  • Drawing Management: Populating and managing project drawings, as well as ensuring drawing numbering/revisions are in line with document control requirements.
  • Communication: Ability to convey ideas, updates, and issues effectively with internal team members.
  • Problem-Solving: Capacity to address challenges, find solutions to modelling issues, and resolve clashes.
  • Teamwork: Collaborate well with colleagues, understanding the importance of collective project goals over individual tasks.

Essential Criteria

  • Minimum 1 years’ experience with using AUTO CAD
  • Full UK Right to work- we are unable to provide sponsorship now or in the future for this role.
  • Full UK Driving License.

Desirable Criteria

  • Knowledge of 3D Modelling Software Packages
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Packages
  • Candidates who living within a 20km radius to head office are preferred.
  • Knowledge of Mechanical & Electrical
  • Knowledge of steel & fabrication
  • Knowledge of construction methods
