Successful candidates will work in a dynamic, stimulating, and demanding yet supportive environment. They will contribute to our energy modelling efforts by combining energy market knowledge with state-of-the-art optimisation techniques. They will be given responsibility to lead model development projects and provide supervision and guidance to junior colleagues. Additionally, they will combine technical ability with a strong track record of leadership and dependable performance in team-oriented environments.

The position suits an individual that has 3+ years of experience in at least two of the following areas:

  • Software development;
  • Optimisation or other quantitative modelling techniques;
  • Energy market forecasting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading the development of features that capture complex market dynamics within Aurora’s models;
  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of how the modelling team operates;
  • Supporting the development of junior colleagues.

As an Energy Modeller you will be an expert in either the development or configuration of Aurora’s modelling software, with some of the following specialist responsibilities:

  • Applying expert knowledge of power markets to design new modelling approaches;
  • Working closely with Aurora’s Subscription Analytics and Advisory teams to deliver key market insights;
  • Delivering Aurora’s models as robust, high-quality software for internal and external clients;
  • Advancing the use of software design best practice within the modelling team.

What we are looking for

Required attributes

  • Relevant degree in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, or Economics;
  • Min 3 years of experience in developing models or software in a commercial environment;
  • Demonstrated competence in at least one programming language such as Python, MATLAB, Julia or similar;
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and analytical ability;
  • A deep interest in energy and/or decarbonization;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, and a great team player.

Desirable attributes

  • Relevant PhD;
  • Line management experience;
  • Experience in the field of mathematical optimization (Linear Programming, Dynamic programming, MIP etc.) in a commercial environment;
  • Experience working with Dev Ops/CI best practices.
