Lithos Energy designs and builds advanced lithium-ion battery packs from the ground up for use in high-performance automotive, marine and aerospace applications. We build the things we design and manufacture in-house, in California. Overview
The Test Engineer works cross functionally with ME and EE design engineers to test and validate both new and existing Lithos products. The position is responsible for the creation of SOP’s, test fixtures, test reports, as well as all levels of test execution for module and pack level.
As Lithos Energy expands our battery safety program and increases in scoop this role will assist in expanding lab capabilities to increase lab throughput as well as our RCA capabilities.
Battery Safety is about understanding the why and how of battery failures, so we are able to assist in the optimization of current and future products.
Responsibilities
- Build and implement battery safety lab SOPs.
- Ensure all safety procedures are followed and the lab operates in a safe manner.
- Fabricate and modify testing fixtures and equipment.
- Partner with sourcing to ensure pipeline of lab consumables.
- Collaborate with engineering for scheduling, test setup, BOM execution.
- Design, execute, and report generation for Safety and Abuse tests on batteries and high voltage sub-systems (mechanical, electrical, and thermal abuse)
- Supporting in-depth analyses within the cross-functional disciplines of materials, chemical, mechanical, electrical, thermal, and CAE correlation.
- Use of fundamental statistical tools such as hypothesis testing, calculating sample sizes, and developing predictive models.
- Develop and characterize new test methodologies, fixtures, means of evaluating performance, and workflow improvements.
- Coordinate test efforts with cross-functional teams, external labs, and/or suppliers
- Technical resource for FMEA, Design, CAE, root cause analysis, and DVP discussions
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineer, electrical engineering, or closely related subject
- 0-3 years working in a testing/data collecting environment.
- Prior experience working on battery thermal abuse, electrical abuse, and mechanical abuse testing is a plus.
- Prior experience with high voltage batteries and systems is a plus.
- Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Strong technical communication skills (written and verbal).
- High awareness of safety hazards, procedures, and best practices is a plus.
- Custom fabrication experience.
- Experience with machining, welding, fabrication, hand tools, etc.
- Ability to quickly learn and use new equipment
- Experience working with batteries, high voltage, or hazardous materials.
- Experience with standardized battery testing such as UN, UL or ECE R100, custom battery testing, high voltage testing or high temperature testing
- Ability to work independently without supervision on complex tasks.
Salary - 90-120k+ equity - dependent on experience
