We are looking for a Senior Energy Insights Analyst to play a key part in delivering the ETC’s analytical work-programme. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing analyses which answer some of the most complex and challenging questions on the road to a net-zero economy.

The candidate will be part of a research team of 3-5 analysts that provide insights to multiple stakeholder groups within the Commission and externally. The candidate will craft compelling narratives based on qualitative and quantitative analysis, which motivate senior industry executives and policy stakeholders.

The successful candidate will have an appetite to grip the big picture and the systems-implications of the energy transition, while also understanding the details underpinning analytical work, including technical details for innovative decarbonisation technologies. The candidate will be proactive and able to deliver autonomously, taking ownership for delivery for distinct parts of the ETC’s analytical work-programme.

The candidate will have a highly collaborative mindset, using insights developed across a broad set of partners to inform and refine the ETC’s narrative and analytical approach. They will build strong relationships with senior executives and experts from the ETC’s member organisations, and work closely with the analytical teams in the ETC’s regional Chapters and broader network.

The candidate will be an excellent verbal and visual communicator, able to explain complex topics succinctly and effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences both within the Commission and externally.

This role will report to the Head of Analysis of the ETC and work closely with the Director, Deputy Director and Chair.

Duties and Essential Job Functions

The Senior Energy Insights Analyst will take responsibility for leading the ETC’s work on a key transition topic. For example:

  • The costs and impacts of the transition on consumers, citizens and business

Thought leadership and analytical work

  • Develop and own high-quality analytical outputs to inform discussions with industry and policymakers – based on literature review, quantitative and qualitative analysis
  • Synthesize analyses in a way that brings clarity and structure on complex and disparate topics
  • Articulate analytically robust, industry-backed, high-ambition narratives
  • Refine both analyses and narratives in close collaboration with industry players and external experts
  • Produce workshop materials, briefs, technical papers, reports, and other relevant materials

Industry engagement

  • Orchestrate stakeholder interactions, including bilateral meetings, workshops and wider industry event participation
  • Prepare and drive discussions with ETC members and external partners to build a high-ambition consensus on steps to be taken to deliver a mid-century net-zero economy
  • Navigate, manage and defuse differences of opinion amongst stakeholders, with the support of the ETC’s leadership team
  • Represent the ETC in external meetings, workshops, and conferences, and media

Project management

  • Drive complex multi-party work programmes to completion while maintaining a sense of direction and adapting to evolving policy and business landscapes
  • Ensure day-to-day management of own workstream, amidst wider team work and sometimes competing and changing priorities
  • Orchestrate stakeholder interactions, including bilateral meetings, workshops and wider industry event participation
  • Develop and deliver on a workplan, and ensure regular progress reporting to the ETC

Requirements

  • Degree, masters degree, or PhD in a technical field (e.g. science, engineering) – highly desirable
  • 3-4+ years at a top-tier strategy consulting firm or equivalent high calibre environment in industry, or the public or third sector
  • Experience of working in energy and climate, or appetite and ability to go through a steep learning curve over a short period of time
  • Proactive and self-starter, appetite for working autonomously in a fast-paced environment, incl a mix of project management, analytical and outreach activities on a day-to-day basis
  • Proven problem-solving skills and ability to deliver high-quality quantitative and qualitative analytics (including techno-economic, stakeholder and policy analysis) on a range of topics
  • Excellent communications skills:
    • Proven ability to shape and articulate compelling narratives based on a combination of quantitative and qualitative information
    • Excellent writing skills with the ability to write concise, well-structured documents (in both text and presentation formats) conveying clear but subtle messages

    • Comfortable in presenting and facilitating discussions in a range of settings
    • Aptitude for managing sensitive group dynamics

  • Experience interacting with senior executives and decisionmakers
  • Experience developing thought leadership for stakeholder influencing purposes
  • Experience working in a collaborative setting (e.g. coalitions/partnerships)
