Elemental is seeking a Director of Data Strategy & Insights to lead how we measure, understand, and communicate impact across our portfolio and the broader climate innovation ecosystem.
This role sits at the intersection of data, strategy, and storytelling. You will build the systems, analytics, and insights that help Elemental make better investment decisions, identify emerging trends, and demonstrate the real-world impact of our work. We're looking for someone who is equally comfortable building dashboards, designing scalable data systems, and synthesizing complex information into clear insights that drive action.
As a key cross-functional partner, you'll work closely with our investment, portfolio, communications, and operations teams to strengthen data infrastructure, improve decision-making, and surface the stories that matter most. You'll also help identify and implement AI and automation tools that improve efficiency and enable our team to scale its impact. This role will report to the Chief Operating Officer.
Key Responsibilities Include
Data Strategy & Infrastructure
- Lead the design and execution of Elemental's organizational data strategy, including the portfolio annual shareholder survey.
- Maintain and continuously improve centralized data infrastructure, primarily within HubSpot and Airtable
- Improve the organization's CRM architecture, including stakeholder engagement, pipeline tracking, and reporting systems
- Identify opportunities to leverage AI tools, automate workflows, integrate emerging technologies, and improve organizational efficiency
Impact Analysis & Insights
- Analyze organizational and portfolio performance, pipeline activity, investment outcomes, and market trends, with a focus on analysis of the annual shareholder survey results.
- Develop dashboards, visualizations, and reporting tools that translate internal and external industry datasets into actionable insights
- Identify emerging themes and trends across sectors, and proactively surface strategic opportunities and risks
- Partner with investment, growth, communications, and leadership teams to translate insights into compelling narratives, reports, case studies, and thought leadership
- Help oversee and manage external data partnerships, including relationships with data analytics firms
Portfolio Coaching
- Establish portfolio-wide impact measurement frameworks and reporting standards
- Coach companies on identifying the metrics for growth, impact and commercialization and linking metrics to environmental and community outcomes, business performance and revenue growth
- Support the development of impact narratives that resonate with customers, partners, policymakers, and investors
- Advise companies on building scalable data collection, management, and reporting systems
- Facilitate peer learning by identifying common challenges, benchmarks, and best practices across the portfolio
About You
You're naturally curious and passionate about using data to better understand the world. You enjoy uncovering patterns, asking thoughtful questions, and turning complex information into clear, actionable insights. Equally comfortable with analytical rigor and big-picture thinking, you're focused on finding the "so what" behind the data.
You're also a strong collaborator and communicator who can translate insights across teams and audiences. You believe data is most valuable when it informs decisions, shapes strategy, and strengthens storytelling. In this role, you'll help bring clarity to complexity, uncover meaningful signals across our portfolio, and translate them into insights that advance Elemental's mission.
