The primary function of the SCADA specialist will be to design, monitor, test, troubleshoot and maintain the primary OCC HMI and remote SCADA/sub systems. The individual will work closely with the Control Centre Operators and OCC Manager for design guidance to meet the interface requirements of the business.
Main Responsibilities
- Development and maintenance of OCC HMI:
- Design, Test, install and maintain the SCADA/OCC HMI control systems and services associated with Operations.
- Responsible for communication with end-users for SCADA/OCC HMI software enhancements and issues.
- Responsible for providing business analysis perspectives for proposed changes to SCADA/OCC HMI applications and associated interfaces.
- Works with real time and historical database administration.
- Provides support guidance, consultation to OCC and end users in the development and implementation of SCADA.
- Monitoring SCADA Systems:
- Monitor existing equipment, real time data and control to ensure connectivity for OCC operating systems.
- Compliance:
- Use of best practices and benchmarks to ensure compliance with regulatory and company standards.
- Uses industry recognized approaches, methodologies and techniques specific to competency area to deliver quality real-time control and monitoring solutions.
Functional Competencies
- Graphical User Interface (GUI) Skills: proficiency in UI design, layout styles and effective display of complex information concisely.
- Automation: Implementation of automated systems within the HMI which alarms based on defined logic.
- Network Interfacing: familiarity with networking and interfacing with endpoints within a network. Working with network administrators to establish communication with desired devices.
- Database Systems: Skills to interface with SQL databases, query, build, modify databases and tables.
- Ignition Platform (Inductive Automation): well developed skills with the ignition platform. Familiarity with all components within the platform.
Job Requirements
- At least 1-2 years' experience in the renewables market.
- 3 years of Engineering, Operations, IT or other utility experience.
- BA or BS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business or related discipline or equivalent experience or technical training.
- Tertiary education in a relevant field, or equivalent demonstrated experience.
- Knowledge of operating systems and network topology.
- Knowledge of SCADA related NERC CIP requirements.
- Ability to use MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, Power Point and Access is required.
- Experience working with SCADA or Automation systems preferred.
- Intermediate to moderate knowledge of one or more of the following: Electric Distribution Operations; Distribution Automation; Distribution Engineering.
- Graphical user interface (GUI) and design skills desired.
- Knowledge of telecommunications systems desired.
- Ability to be self-managing and to relish the challenges of problem solving.
- Good written and verbal communication skills. Ability to develop positive relationships with vendors and clients.
- Knowledge of SQL database systems, Computer programming languages in Python and JSON.
- Experience in application support.
- Fluent English speaker.
- Strong analytical skills and confidence in Microsoft Suite.
- Proven track record of being a self-starter who can both work flexibly and autonomously.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate complex data succinctly.
- Document work practices appropriately.
