Job Description
Our mission is to secure a safe and stable climate by accelerating the transition to a thriving, just, and resilient low-carbon economy. We are widely recognized as an influential voice on climate issues, a trusted convener, and a credible source of expertise and analysis. We work closely with international climate negotiators; federal, state, and local policymakers; executives of Fortune 500 businesses; and a wide range of other stakeholders to advance strong policy and action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, promote clean energy, and strengthen resilience to climate impacts. C2ES is an independent, nonpartisan, nonprofit organization.
C2ES is the Secretariat of the Energy Transition Accelerator (ETA), a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State, The Rockefeller Foundation, and the Bezos Earth Fund to catalyze private capital, including through voluntary carbon markets, to accelerate the transition from dirty to clean power in emerging and developing economies. In accelerating the clean energy transition, the ETA will aim to deliver deeper, earlier emissions reductions, help developing countries achieve and strengthen their nationally determined contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement, and advance broader sustainable development goals, including expanded energy access and poverty alleviation. It will also generate new finance to strengthen adaptation efforts in vulnerable countries. Our 2024 workplan revolves around building a coalition of qualified private sector and sovereign government buyers, and countries who are interested in generating high integrity carbon credits representing verified greenhouse gas emissions.

Requirements
The Energy Transition Accelerator Coordinator will be a key part of the ETA Secretariat team in supporting the development, launch, and ongoing successful operation of the ETA Coalition. The role will involve contributing to the development of ETA through project management, coordination, and operational support; research and technical analysis; and strategic engagement with companies and countries. This position provides an exciting opportunity to join a small, fast-moving team committed to effective and ambitious climate action and to be involved in an innovative “big bet” initiative that has the potential to be transformational – while at the same time belonging to a broader organization (C2ES) at an exciting inflection point in its history. The ETA Coordinator will report to the ETA Senior Manager.
Major responsibilities
The ETA Coordinator will support the ETA Partners and others on the Secretariat team in the development of key elements of the ETA as follows:
- Participate as a member of the ETA Secretariat team supporting day-to-day operations, including:
- Maintaining ETA workplans, taking notes and recording decisions, following up on next steps, and updating progress trackers;
- Arranging and supporting stakeholder consultations to gather broad perspectives and expertise from companies, countries, ETA’s Senior Consultative Group, and civil society organizations;
- Preparing slide decks, background documents, and other materials for internal and external ETA calls;
- Coordinate ETA engagement with countries and companies, including:
- Scheduling and tracking bilateral outreach, including emails and phone calls with internal working groups and broader ETA team;
- Tracking participation and engagement by countries and companies, including invitations and RSVPs to recurring ETA calls, and ensure timely follow-ups;
- Scheduling internal team calls as well as calls with stakeholders, and recording and sharing call notes;
- Preparing briefing materials for calls with companies and countries;
- Helping to organize events and meetings with companies, countries, ETA Partners, and other stakeholders;
- Contribute to the development of key ETA elements, such as:
- Gathering data and analysis to estimate the potential supply and demand of ETA credits;
- Conducting literature surveys and other desk research to inform the development of a governance model for the ETA Coalition;
- Conducting research on carbon credit pricing, e.g., desk research to assess pricing options for jurisdictional-scale credits based on the LEAF Coalition model;
- Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) expectations:
- Participate in C2ES monthly all-staff DEI meetings;
- Demonstrate commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment;
- Complete trainings during on-boarding and on a yearly basis.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., economics, environmental or energy policy, environmental studies, political science) and 1-2 years of relevant experience; or at least 5 years of relevant experience;
- Strong writing, research, and analytic skills, including proficiency in compiling and analyzing publicly available data and deriving and presenting relevant insights;
- Aptitude for assembling cogent, concise, and compelling briefings, slide decks, and other presentation materials;
- Broad familiarity with and interest in relevant topics in climate policy, such as carbon markets, electric power sector decarbonization, and/or climate finance;
- Highly organized and attentive to detail;
- Strong project management skills;
- Entrepreneurial, self-directed, and willing to take initiative as appropriate;
- Ability to work quickly, juggling multiple demands, in a fast-paced environment;
- Working knowledge of Spanish or another foreign language a plus.
Starting Salary Base
$55,000 - $67,000, depending on experience and qualifications.

Travel and Location
C2ES operates a hybrid work environment from our main office in Washington, D.C.. Preference will be given to applicants in (or willing to move to) the Washington, DC metro area, with physical presence expected in the office at least 3 days per week. We will, however, also consider remote applicants for this position.
