Position Summary

We are seeking a Senior Sustaining Engineer to ensure Engineering provides the highest level of technical service to internal and external customers. The role includes responsibility for developing the foundation for proactively managing any potential issues in the field. This role also represents Engineering to internal and external stakeholders. This highly impactful role is critical to supporting customer success. The ideal candidate is optimistic, energetic and an excellent communicator who can thrive when working as part of a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary team! This role reports directly to the Head of Sustaining Engineering.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Collect data from maintenance and engineering sources and perform statistical analysis to monitor, evaluate and provide solutions to the operational and technical performance of the Smart Wires deployed fleet of assets
  • Analyze data to determine root cause of failures, provide recommendations for maintenance program adjustments
  • Provide technical support for product maintenance activities
  • Identify and prioritize reliability drivers requiring resolution/mitigation
  • Support the development and upkeep of the condition-based maintenance service for deployed assets
  • Work cross-functionally to develop tools for tracking, reporting, and diagnosing issues; utilize automation where possible
  • Collaborate with the Project Delivery team to schedule and execute planned and unplanned maintenance activities
  • Develop parts lists for remedial works
  • Monitor device performance and adjust recommendations and spare targets as needed
  • Support commissioning and testing
  • Keep track of firmware revisions, PCBA revisions, and device settings of the deployed fleet of assets

Requirements

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or data science
  • 5 years' experience working in the energy or utilities industry
  • Familiarity with ticket-based issue tracking systems such as JIRA
  • Proficient in trend analysis
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills - ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly in written documentation, including guides, reports, and process documentation for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work with various internal and external technical stakeholders
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong organization and documentation abilities
  • Self-motivated and willing to take initiative

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Master's degree in engineering or data science
  • 10 years' relevant industry experience
  • Six Sigma experience
  • Experience working with offshore teams
  • Hands-on experience with PCBAs and mechanical systems preferred

Location

  • This is a hybrid position based in Durham, North Carolina. Candidates are expected to work from the office for at least 24 core hours per week unless agreed up with the Manager. Core hours are defined as 9a to 3p ET.

Required travel

  • This position is expected to travel up to 20% of the year, both domestically and internationally
