Job Description

Moment Energy is seeking a Battery Assembly Lead Hand to lead the safe assembly, inspection, and testing of our battery energy storage systems.

In this hands-on leadership role, you'll oversee a production team responsible for assembling battery modules, power electronics, and high-voltage components into complete energy storage systems. Working closely with our Manufacturing, Engineering, and Quality teams, you'll help ensure every product meets the highest standards of safety, quality, and performance while supporting the growth of our manufacturing operations.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Lead the final assembly of high-voltage battery systems, including battery modules, busbars, structural components, and high-voltage wire harnesses.
  • Install power electronics, control boards, and low-voltage wire harnesses, ensuring proper alignment and termination.
  • Ensure all electrical connections meet required torque specifications and accurately record torque values.
  • Perform detailed visual and physical inspections of incoming battery modules and completed battery packs, checking for damage, defects, and foreign object debris (FOD).
  • Conduct insulation resistance (Megger/Hi-Pot) and voltage continuity testing before battery packs are energized.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of cell voltages, serial numbers, component batch numbers, and torque values for every battery pack.
  • Safely connect battery packs to automated charge/discharge test stations and run Battery Management System (BMS) test profiles.
  • Monitor charge/discharge testing and verify system performance throughout the testing process.
  • Establish and enforce live-work boundaries to maintain a safe battery assembly environment.
  • Follow arc flash safety protocols by properly using CAT 4 (40 cal/cm²) arc flash suits, Class 0/1 insulated gloves, face shields, and other required PPE.
  • Ensure battery safety equipment, including safety hooks, fire blankets, sand tables, and thermal cameras, is ready for use at all times.

The Candidate

We're looking for individuals with the following traits, skills, and experiences:

  • 3-5 years of experience with high-voltage battery systems (300V-1000V+) or high-power electrical systems in a manufacturing, testing, or industrial environment.
  • Experience assembling, integrating, inspecting, and testing electrical or battery systems.
  • Hands-on experience using electrical test equipment such as digital multimeters, insulation resistance testers (Megger/Hi-Pot), battery cyclers, and similar diagnostic equipment.
  • Strong understanding of high-voltage electrical safety practices and energized work procedures.
  • Certification or training in CSA Z462 (Workplace Electrical Safety), NFPA 70E, or equivalent electrical safety standards.
  • Experience working in energized electrical environments while using Category 4 (CAT 4) arc flash PPE.
  • Experience maintaining accurate production, quality, and traceability documentation.
  • Proven ability to lead production activities, mentor technicians, and uphold high standards of workmanship and safety.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to following structured assembly, testing, and quality procedures.

Nice-to-Have Experience:

  • Canadian Journey-person certification (Industrial Electrician, Electronics Technician, or a related trade).
  • Experience working with lithium-ion battery systems, battery energy storage systems (BESS), or electric vehicle (EV) battery manufacturing.
  • Experience in aerospace, marine, renewable energy, or other high-voltage industries.
  • Familiarity with Battery Management Systems (BMS), CAN bus communication, and battery diagnostic software.
  • Experience supporting continuous improvement initiatives within a manufacturing or production environment.

Why join us?

  • Today, we're delivering 5x the energy density and have all the certifications needed to ship energy independence to the world.
  • Be part of a mission-driven company focused on creating sustainable energy solutions and making a positive impact on the world.
  • Collaborate closely with passionate co-founders and a team committed to innovation and excellence.
  • Contribute to building and scaling a company from the ground up, where your work will have a direct and meaningful impact.
  • Thrive in a workplace that values collaboration, wellness, and celebrating successes, with regular company socials, fitness sessions, and more.

We're a fast-paced and dynamic team.

Every day you'll be taking on a new challenge and learning something new. You'll take on a wide breadth of tasks and contribute to disrupting the battery industry. You'll be part of a tight-knit team that is working together to save the planet! Fun, health, and wellness are incorporated into our daily schedule and we encourage all our team members to bring innovative ideas to the table to create an interactive workplace.

Safety is our Foundation

We prioritize the safety of our products, customers, employees, and the general public above all else. From the workshop to the field, we maintain the highest standards for our batteries in testing manufacturing and deployment, and daily operations. Safety is not only about procedures-it is about vigilance, responsibility, and speaking up when something does not feel right.

Safety is everyone's responsibility. We follow safety protocols, use proper equipment, and continuously improve our systems to prevent risks before they occur. If something is unsafe, we stop work and address it.

Safety also means protecting our colleagues, customers, and communities by designing reliable products, maintaining safe workspaces, and ensuring our work is done carefully and responsibly.

We're Building a Greener Future Together:

We infuse passion for our cleantech mission into every aspect of our work and incorporate fun into the workplace. We motivate one another, celebrate our successes and embrace eco-friendly practices to reduce our carbon footprint.

We Prioritize our Customer's Needs:

We place our customers at the core of everything we do, ensuring that every decision considers their needs and aims to provide increased value to them. We provide reliable support for our customers, every step of the way.

We're Open, Honest and Accountable:

We prioritize open and honest communication to foster mutual understanding, strengthen knowledge sharing, and reduce miscommunication within the team. We admit when we've made a mistake, and remedy our actions. We transparently communicate outcomes whether good, bad, or unexpected.

We Think and Act like Owners:

We're self-starters that proactively embrace new challenges along with personal and collective ownership of responsibilities in the organization. We focus on growth, not titles, and we do what needs to be done.

We Treat Everyone with Respect:

We actively listen, share openly, and work together towards common goals. We treat one another with mutual respect to cultivate an inclusive environment where everyone feels accepted, supported, and heard. We keep an open mind and are willing to learn.
